VHS Collection is a band from New York City known for high energy live performances and a distinct alt-rock, electronic, and disco-influenced sound.
VHS's three core members have played music together for most of their lives. James Bohannon and Conor Cook went to middle school together in New York City, while James went to high school with Nils Vanderlip where they formed their first band.
In late 2014 VHS formed, based initially around home recordings which the band posted on Soundcloud. VHS began performing a live set around NYC's lower east side rock clubs, eventually selling out several headline shows at the famed Mercury Lounge that year.
In 2015, VHS released their debut EP. The EP's lead single "Lean" was reviewed favorably and quickly went to #8 on the Spotify Viral charts. In 2016, VHS released Stereo Hype, whose single “Waiting on the Summer” also charted on the viral charts. VHS performed sets at major festivals that year including Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits. VHS Collection songs were featured in several TV shows that year including Shameless, Sunday Night Football, and Love. The band completed its first North American Headline tour in 2017, featuring sold out shows at LA's Troubadour and NYC's Music Hall of Williamsburg. VHS’s songs have been streamed over 35 million times on Spotify. The band is recording its debut album which will be released in 2018.
Ask Smoke Season to describe their powerhouse blend of electronic and indie and they'll give you four words: “Fleetwood Mac with beats”. Los Angeles-based Gabrielle Wortman and Jason Rosen, the duo that comprises Smoke
Season, seem to form their own genre of music drawing on electro-pop, rock steady and soul to create something "utterly fascinating" (axs).
Their newest single, “Good Days,” released June 2017, “serves up serious summertime vibes” (Nylon) and kicks off a marathon of new music for the duo scheduled for release throughout 2017.
In the past 2 years, Smoke Season has independently released an EP with a corresponding short film (which received features at 2017 Cannes Film Festival and 2017 Hollyshort Film Festival), and toured nationwide. Their millions of Spotify plays and acclaim from major press outlets (W Magazine, Buzzfeed, Huffington Post, Clash Magazine, LA Weekly, and The New York Times to name a few), are proof that their sound is resonating with fans throughout the country.
The duo has risen as a voice for social change: flying to Standing Rock North Dakota to support DAPL protests, and releasing music videos focusing on bullying of LGBTQ youth ("Loose"), support for veterans ("When The Smoke Clears"), and immigration reform ("Emilia").
