SX Foreplay Fest V
Welcome to SX FOREPLAY FEST V! This blessed year we move it to the impeccable Three Links! 10+ bands from across this beautiful nation that are gonna swing by and rock Dallas out on their way to sxsw.
Three Links - Deep Ellum, TX
Sealion is a 4 piece band from Dallas TX, with surf, punk, and Indie influences. This past summer they completed multiple national tours including a run with The Toadies. In the past two years Sealion has played countless shows and shared the stage with bands such as Man or Astro-Man? The Coathangers, Cloud Nothings, Pond, The Men, Crystal Antlers, Turbo Fruits, Diarrhea Planet, White Fang, Mind Spiders, Jaill, Tim Kasher(cursive), Surf City, Bare Wires, The Zoltars, Bass Drum of Death, Japanther, Single Mothers, White Lung, Titus Andronicus, Fungi Girls and more.
Known for an anything goes live show with their tightly knit fan base in tow that will dance the night away like it is their last, it is definitely one worth checking out and is a constant mention in several online "must attend show of the week" from local media sources(Dallas Observer, DC9 at night, Central Track, D magazine, DFW.com, Ft worth Weekly, Fort Live). At any given one of these gatherings of music, friends, and alcohol you could witness anything from an intimate, calm set, to having band members on the ground or in the air playing their instruments while the crowd dives into the drums. It's an experience everyone should be a part of and once you have, you cannot wait for the next.
Sealion pulls influences from bands such as The Pixies and The Nerves along with various punk bands from the 70's-90's, 60's garage & surf and 50's pop into a sound all their own.
It’s spelled S T U Y E D E Y E D. Pronounced “Tie-Dyed” with an S up front. No, we didn’t originally intend on giving you a headache, but any type of comfort removed is always refreshing. This band was born out of a basement in the neighborhood of Bed-Stuy in Brooklyn, NY.
Our music explores many vantages. It’s about perspective. Songs that stem from growing up on welfare and section 8, trying to break free from a system that is systemically oppressive against us. Trying to find weight in the existence of right now and not what others dictate for us. A perspective that showcases the anger, compassion, perseverance and strength found within.
We do not make music for the cool guy. Our songs aren’t for the self important people drinking cocktails at a bar in a neighborhood they have no respect for. Our shows aren’t for the people who live for just being seen. This band exists to shake the shit out of you. We are not here to validate validation for the social ladder.
Our sound is loud. It’s direct. It’s fuzzed out. Teetering on the brink of falling apart, but never allowing it to. There is a weight, there is a groove, and there is a message. We stop and we start. Find comfort in the uncomfortable. We are intimate, we climb on your heads, and most importantly, we are right there with you.
As for the “we” in this industry mandated biography that I to hijacked to give it to you straight from the source, here is the band: Humberto Genao on bass, Luis Ruelas on drums, and Nelson Antonio Hernandez-Espinal (me) on guitar and vocals.
Get up front. Free yourselves. Fuck the bullshit. Love the real ones. No one is cool. No one is special. Preach love. Fight for yourselves, the marginalized, and the disenfranchised. Accept everyone for who they are. Give in to feeling uncomfortable. That is where the change happens. Be here. Right now.
Three lifelong friends from the mountains of New York's Hudson Valley region, Sun Voyager makes music for space cadets who prefer the long haul on the open road. Currently based in New York City, the band formed by rehearsing in the back of a family taco joint, playing bars, legion halls, and anywhere noise is (or isn't) permitted throughout the Northeast. They've shared bills with Truckfighters, Pissed Jeans, White Denim, Roky Erickson, Ruby The Hatchet, The Parlor Mob, A Giant Dog, and California X.
