The DIRTY ROTTEN IMBECILES' history begins on May 2, 1982 around 4:00pm, in the city of Houston, TX. It was on this day that the musically aggressive quartet we now know as D.R.I. made their first Dirty Rotten noise and called it a song. Back then it was Spike Cassidy (guitar), Kurt Brecht (vocals), Eric Brecht (drums), and Dennis Johnson (bass).
The group started practicing at Kurt and Eric's parents home, where the brothers lived amongst the "Madman" (their father). They practiced a few nights a week around 5:00pm, just as the "Madman" would be on his way home from a hard day at work. He would open his front door only to be blasted with 120db of the band's horrendous attempt to make music. The "Madman" would then pound on their jam room door until he was let in so that in turn, he could throw them out of his house calling them such things as "... you bunch of dirty rotten imbeciles". This is how D.R.I. got their name.
Two months later, on July 2, 1982, the band played their first show at Joe Star's OMNI, in Houston.
On November 6th & 7th of 1982 D.R.I. recorded their first release, the Dirty Rotten EP, stuffing 22 songs into 18 minutes on a 7" EP that played at 33 rpm's. Only 1000 copies of this EP version were pressed, making it now a very rare collector's item. Demand caused this EP to be pressed into a 12" LP version, released in 1983, appropriately called Dirty Rotten LP. Leaving the underground music scene thriving for more, Dirty Rotten LP became a major success and also an inspiration for many new bands at the time. Soon after, D.R.I. was labeled the fastest band in the world.
THE THRILL KILLERS
The Thrill Killers was formed in late 2010 by former members of Flashburn Sam Illich, John Marlatt and Jimi Russell who is also a current member of Bag of Humans from Baltimore Maryland. Damian Arletto of Jane Likes Dick and Scott Reedy and Brian Roper both of Peace Corps fame, joined up merging the overwhelming power of each respective band into one... The Thrill Killers.
Big Scary Robot
Formed in 2013 Big Scary Robot has a Hard Rock edge with a refined punk sound.
They pair nicely with just about everything. The trio cranks out songs with bright over-driven guitar, fast
up beat tempos, melodic verses and thoughtfully written tunes. All the guys are San Diego natives and
support the local music scene. Their first EP is due for release this coming year.
Bryan Kibbe: Drums
Ronnie Lee: Guitar / Vocals / Lead
Jake Schock: Bass / Vocals
DVT was originally started as a 3-piece band with Christian Sia, Richard Shoemaker, and James Munroe. The band has been through many internal conflicts resulting in line-up changes thus bringing in Joey Sia and Maui Olivares. After a series of shows with the 4-piece band DVT decided to bring back their original guitarist James Munroe now making the band a 5-piece. In April of 2012 Maui had to leave the band shortly due to personal reasons and we brought in good friend and vocalist DD to front-line the band. In June of 2012 DD had to move to Colorado, leaving the band, and Maui returned to the 5-piece punk band in June of 2012. During September the band was prepping to play the 3rd annual of Skalloween at The Vault. In an attempt to have a crossover of ska and punk; Jimi brought three more members into the band which were Kasey Cothran(Saxophone), Ryan Ruder(Trombone), and Jeremy Reichenbach(Trumpet) to play in the horn section of "DVSKA!" In the fall of November in 2012 Richard had to leave the band because of his career options. After Richard's departure, Shawn Stevens had taken his place in playing bass from January to May of 2013. Shawn left for various reasons and Nicolas MacDuffee of Xpulsion stepped in and played bass for DVT a little over a year from June 2013 to September 2014. Sabian Poggio of Feeble Fetus came to slap bass for a funky DVT from November 2014 to present. James Munroe had left the band in November of 2016 due to creative differences and soon Braxton Marcellous took the place of lead guitar during the same month.
