Cartoon Monsoon is back with another holiday special! Mary, Joe, Steve, & Puppet celebrate Earth Day by savin' the dang Earth. But not without the help of some of the best comedians in town, and some new cartoons from their favorite animators.
Mary Houlihan is a Brooklyn-based comedy writer, performer, artist, animator, and blonde woman. You might have seen or heard her on Difficult People, The Best Show With Tom Scharpling, or that one Martin Shkreli vid. Her writing, videos, and animation have appeared on Comedy Central, Adult Swim, Seriously.TV, and Reductress. She has been featured as a comedian to keep your li'l eyes on in Paste Magazine, TimeOut, Splitsider, Impose, and Bedford & Bowery. You can see her host the monthly shows Cartoon Monsoon, an episodic play with puppets 'n' stuff, and Future Forms, a stand-up/character/"???" showcase, both in Brooklyn.
Joe Rumrill is a fictional one-eyed spinach-loving sailor created in 1929...Wait, no, hold on...Joe Rumrill is a Brooklyn-based stand-up comedian and writer who performs anywhere you need him (no sewers, please. Not after the last time...) His work has been featured in Seriously.TV, Splitsider, and the Village Voice. Joe can often be seen playing various characters on the weekly MNN series The Special Without Brett Davis. He's the creator of Fresh Perspectives a popular weirdo comedy showcase in Williamsburg that has been featured in the Brooklyn Comedy Festival. He co-created Cartoon Monsoon, a monthly UNeducational "children's" variety show bursting with puppets, animation and costumed characters that can be seen at the Annoyance Theater. His talents were utilized as a writer/story producer for the upcoming web-series Start Talkin' with Scott Rogowsky. In addition to performing nightly on various shows throughout the city, he's currently hard at work on both his first hour-long solo show Joe Rumrill Is Too Scared To Be Shot Out Of A Cannon, and a musical based on the Gremlins movies. He hopes to one day, with the right combination of campaigning, crowdsourcing and luck, be the first person ever to perform stand-up comedy in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Speaking of, Joe's Christmas list can be provided upon request, and, as luck would have it, he's been a very good boy this year.
Tim Platt is a comedian, actor, and musician who has been featured on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, MasterClass with Steve Martin, and the Comedy Central series "Someones In Here". An alumni of the absurdist children's theater company The Story Pirates as well as the Upright Citizen Brigade's Lloyd Night, Tim is also one half of Pasic and Platt, a duo that puts on comedy theater events grounded in slow, tense, and emotionally honest scene work. Tim writes and puppeteers for Cartoon Monsoon, a live kids show for adults, and also wrote the song "V is for Vegetable" that will appear on Sesame Street this March. He hosts the monthly Made of Bugs: A Comedy Show with Music at the Footlight and co-hosts the experimental comedy show Sloop Jumbly at Vital Joint. Tim does stand up all over the city.
Steven DeSiena is a comedian, musician, and producer born and raised in New York City. His work has been featured in the Brooklyn Comedy Festival, on web shorts for IFC, Comedy Central, televised on "The Special Without Brett Davis", and on stages such as UCB, the PIT, and Magnet Theater, among others. As a composer, he has scored multiple live shows, videos, and full-length plays, including the cult favorite “Cartoon Monsoon”.
