La Dee Da and The Pipes (($10 before/$15 day of show))

Oakland’s La Dee Da “contrasts epic rock with flights of fancy” (Joshua Teehee, Fresno Bee) with silky-strong vocals, dreamy Wurlitzer piano and solid grooves.

Singer/keyboardist Rosie Steffy blends the whimsy and insight of Joni Mitchell's lyrics with a dash of Leonard Bernstein, Erik Satie and a hint of R&B for a recipe that is equal parts jazz, prog and pop. Aaron Handler (bass) and Daniel Fleischer (drums) provide a groundwork of tasty, nuanced grooves.

The end result? A mesmerizing soundscape spiced with provocative lyrics. La-Dee-Da!

The Pipes (Darren Johnston, Matt Renzi & Cory Wright)

The Pipes is a vocal, clarinet and bass-clarinet trio performing original tunes by beloved local trumpet player/composer Darren Johnston. Sparse eerie woodwind arrangements and captivating solos soar and careen in a blend of experimental chamber folk with a jazz reduction.

Darren Johnston - voice/trumpet
Matt Renzi - clarinet
Cory Wright - bass clarinet
