Adrian Marcel: GMFU Tour

“There's no leaving the Bay Area, no matter how far away you might move, if you grew up in Oakland, you take it with you,” says Adrian Marcel. The city boasts a proud musical legacy including Sly Stone, MC Hammer, En Vogue, Toni Tony Tone, Too $hort Tupac Shakur, Pete Escovito, Sheila E and countless others. Adrian Marcel picks up the torch for Oakland and timeless R&B on his debut mixtape, 7 Days of Weak. Executive produced and hosted by fellow East Oakland native, modern soul trailblazer and multiplatinum producer Raphael Saadiq. 7 Days of Weak is a true urban contemporary collective of songs. A fusion of traditional R&B, hip-hop, turf and soul music blended together with beautiful melodies and detailed storylines that paint a vivid picture of young man in his early 20's overwhelmed by the realities of love.

Marcel knew he wanted to sing at a young age. He studied music incessantly, learning as much as he could while receiving formal training as a child. His career started to take off as he started to perform locally. With his impressive vocal range and stage swagger, he was immediately compared to Chico DeBarge and Al B! Sure. Marcel accepts the comparisons while remaining true to his own lane. El Seven Recordings and Republic Records saw the talent and truth in his music, which led to his signing in early 2013.

On his debut single Waiting, he slides from a fluttering falsetto into a bluesy hook as synths pulsate below. It's a formidable introduction into 7 Days of Weak and Marcel’s musical gifts. Currently residing in Atlanta, Marcel is bringing the spotlight back to his beloved Oakland and R&B music.

KoraTheArtist

Kora The Artist was born in North Carolina but relocated to southeast WashingtonD.C. early in life. Kora has always had a fascination with entertaining. As a young girl she would line up her dolls and stuffed animals and organize elaborate performances in her bedroom. She would imagine she was singing in front of large arenas of clamoring fans engrossed in every note she sang. Initially inspired by Britney Spears, Kora would spend hours watching her music videos emulating dance moves and music riffs. Kora always had a deep connection with not only her own emotions but the emotions of others as well. She truly developed her sense of musical direction while her father went through rehabilitation for drug abuse. Kora was raised primarily by her mother and had limited visitation with her father. She cherished her visits withhim because they were not often. He would play Erykah Badu’s “Baduizm” album on repeat. Kora would watch his struggle and correlate his emotions with each song she heard. The music became a soundtrack to their time together. It was a time that shaped her tremendously.

Kora decided then she identified most with strong and fearless women who made bold choices and were not afraid to be unique. Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Jhene Aiko, Sade and of course Erykah Badu influenced Kora to create a sound that encompassed luscious melodies and gentle tones with hard-hitting beats, synthesizers and daring lyrics. Stylist Ariana Soleil helped Kora develop an edgy look that highlighted her unique personality, focusing on bold color and avant-garde textures and prints.

With supreme adoration, love, financial backing and undying support from her mother Kora set out to make her mark on the world. Her first public musical recognition was her sophomore year of college at University of Maryland College Park. Kora performed her single “Sick Of Love” at a Battle Of The Voices event. Though she did not take home first place she was elated with the crowd reception and proud of her dedication to prepare and display true artistry.

Filled with confidence from her first performance Kora went on to sing at BET Music Matters competition at SOB’s in New York City. Shortly after, Kora met producer/engineer Dave Knocks. Dave became one of Kora’s biggest blessings. He believed in her music and her dreams. They decided to merge talents to create an unmatched sound. Dave Knocks executive produced Kora’s new album Vertigo. The album focuses on relationships and love issues and is now available on her SoundCloud.

Kora’s aspiration is to acquire richness in aspects of wealth, charity, philanthropy, activism and love. Her whole purpose is to cultivate something in her image to live on and positively influence the masses.

A dream does not remain a dream for long when you wake up every day with the motivation to achieve it. Aspiring rapper Handles from the Eastern Shore, VA, brings new meanings to the word “hunger”; consistently displaying his drive to fulfill his appetite for artistic success. Graduating from Virginia State University, to student body, he’s Kentral Savage while to music-craving ears, he’s the savaging beast properly named Handles; flooding airwaves with a lyrically incising set of bars that you not only bob your head in unison to, but mentally commend him for his perpetual ambition. Similar to the soothing effect elevator music has on most individuals, Handles provides you with musical delights that can be played virtually anywhere, while many rappers in their adolescent 20’s struggle to locate the adjectives in their minds to express the emotions of their verses. Proving to listeners both young and old how set apart he is from the social stigma of rappers today.

Properly making the bed he chooses to lay in, he studies the art of music, ultimately strengthening his already natural talent. Such motivation to his intellect shines throughout his lyrics, and inspires nearly everyone to master the craft they are blessed with. Around New Years of 2013, he connected with DJ Suss-One of Power105.1 and released his latest mixtape "Done Thinking" in which he hosted. It has gained a lot of exposure and great reviews, even cosign approvals from artists such as: Talib Kweli, Skyzoo, Estelle, Skillz, Jaz-O, Grand Puba and Rapsody to name a few, his best project thus far according to his fans. Handles has opened for artists such as: Beanie Sigel, Joe Budden, Cassidy, Keith Murray, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, Biz Markie, Wu-Tang Clan member Cappadonna, Vince Staples, Ginuwine and more. He has also done shows and festivals in New York, Washington D.C, Atlanta, North Carolina, amongst many more cities along the east coast.

“I think music is in everyone.”

“His belief in that unites every soul with the sole purpose of keeping us all connected through music and forever bonded to the liberation of self-expression. “He is a bold person with a bold message – say what you have to say and say it your way.” Devotion is the motive, success is the goal, and expression is key. The melodic art provided by Kentral “Handles” Savage is not to be heard but to be listened to.
