Quix is a bass producer from Auckland, NZ. He started as a drummer when he was young, and ended messing around with production a few years back. In early 2017, Quix embarked on his first North American tour and hasn't looked back. He has been to CHINA, INDIA, CANADA, AUSTRALIA & the USA in his first year of full time touring.
When a man is born in Minnesota – a state known for having 10,000 lakes – it’s entirely possible that he could, like currently Washington, DC – based DJ/producer Basscamp, excel at making that many styles of music. The producer spent his childhood as a competitive pianist and his teenage years as a classical and jazz tenor saxophonist. Blending those unique sensibilities with a burgeoning interest in the trance sounds of Tiesto, Paul van Dyk and Paul Oakenfold informs his uniquely melodic and timeless take on producing electronic dance music. Priding himself on creating a “not just auditory, but also physical interaction” with his music, Basscamp’s ultimate aim as a producer is to “captivate people.”
A mix of unique circumstances led to his decision to move into production. Working in a consulting firm as a college grad was not exactly meshing with his blossoming interests in electronic music. Thus, his eventual transition from being behind a desk to being a force behind the boards and in front of the crowds by 2011 was a necessary evolution and is a far more comfortable fit for his dreams and aspirations.
From an unofficial remix of Chiddy Bang and Icona Pop’s “Mind Your Manners” released in August 2011, Basscamp’s mainstream growth has been swift. In 2013, he had his remix of Tiesto and DJ Punish’s 2013 single “Shocker,” picked up for official release by Tiesto’s label Musical Freedom. As well, his recent remix of pop star Lorde’s “Tennis Court” was supported by OWSLA’s Nest website after a viral spread on Tumblr. Similar success met his remix of Avicii’s “Addicted to You” done alongside fellow DC-based rising producer, Rex Riot.
Support for his work has been coming in from all over, including Tiesto, Big Dope P, Audra Mae, Bro Safari, :DFace, Viceroy Infuze, and Proper Villains. Basscamp anticipates an active and successful 2014.
