Jahn Rome

Hailing from Maryland, Jahn Rome defines himself as an authentic voice with a passionate stage presence. While attending college in Philadelphia, Rome earned his performing experience playing at countless house concerts and school sponsored events. He got a taste for bigger stages after opening for artists such as Steve Aoki and Kirko Bangz. Using his philosophy and gender studies background, Rome engages with topics and problems that many rappers refuse to tackle. This willingness to engage with unknowns and uncertainties is central to his music and performances.

Rome’s performances feature high-energy songs contrasted by heartfelt verses meant to keep audiences both dancing and listening. Instead of an aggressive, hyper masculine personality, he connects with fans through honesty and sincerity. And while Rome is no stranger to the stage, he finds deep purpose in creating songs that connect with audiences off stage. He understands that his privileged position as a white and cisgender man already gives him a platform that many people do not have.

With that understanding, Rome released his powerful song “The Art of Denial” and its music video in November of 2016. The video depicts a somber but intense scene in which Rome delivers painful, personal lyrics covering the horrors of sexual assault. Rome uses this opportunity to clearly and aggressively denounce sexual assault in all forms. The music video amassed over 100 thousand views on Facebook.

After some reflection and work in the studio, Rome began a new phase of releases. In March 2017, he started with first single “Issues” followed by single “So Many Words.” To date, “Issues” and “So Many Words” together have gained over 140,000 total streams. In May, Jahn released the third single and video in this new series, entitled “Rush.” With these releases, Rome has gained the attention and support of dozens of blogs, including notable sites/channels such as EARMILK, ELEVATOR and Promoting Sounds. Going forward, Jahn will release new music consistently on a bi-weekly basis.

By using his voice, he has the greatest potential to assist in causes that help us become more critical of the status quo. This passion for good causes consistently fuels his music and performances; he has played for large-scale fundraising concerts in the DMV and Philly areas to benefit organizations such as the ACLU, umttr, USO and JDRF. With every step on a stage, Jahn Rome seizes another opportunity to connect with people and show them a new perspective.
