Winterruption 2018: Delhi 2 Dublin, DJ Khanvict, Natural Sympathies

Delhi 2 Dublin

Delhi 2 Dublin is a live-electronic, bhangra, hip-hop, world-pop, hybrid act whose concerts have been likened to "90 minutes of freebasing joy". Famous for their energy onstage, the five member crew has played over 100 shows a year for the last decade at festivals like Electric Forest (USA), Woodford Folk (Australia) and Bali Spirit Festival (Indonesia). Connecting roots to future, DZD features a heavy electronic backbone with live traditional Indian instruments (dhol, tabla), fiddle, electric guitar, and the stunning punjabi-english vocals of frontman Sanjay Seran. The new album, We're All Desi sees the notorious genre smashers continue to evolve into fresh sonic territory. Teaming up with producer Nick Middleton (The Funk Hunters), the result is a battle call for a quickening world - more truth, more smiles… and a lot more bass.

DJ Khanvict

Asad Khan, aka DJ Khanvict is a multi-genre DJ based out of Vancouver, British Columbia. Khanvict migrated to Canada at age 13, where he later discovered music and DJ’ing while he was pursuing an Engineering degree at the University of British Columbia. He quickly became a household name in the hugely understated scene of lavish Indian weddings that hosted thousands of guests at each event and went on to become the first South Asian DJ to win at the BC Wedding Awards in 2014. His success in the wedding circuit continued at public events as he quickly became the most sought after South Asian DJ at night clubs as well as outdoor festivals like the annual UBC Holi Event (Link). His ability to mix flawlessly between genres combined with strong stage presence has given him rave reviews from global citizens, earning him bookings years in advance both locally and internationally. He started blending classical Indian sounds with modern bass-heavy electronic music to create a sound that is tailor made for music festivals and large crowds. Khanvict aims to blend the musical influences from his South Asian childhood with modern electronic music to create a distinct sound that crosses borders and embraces musical diversity much like his hometown of Vancouver. The sentence to entertain continues, and he continues to serve in style.

Natural Sympathies

Natural Sympathies is the solo project of Regina musician Amber Goodwyn, formerly of the Montreal bands Cobra & Vulture and Nightwood. Trading her former guitar music for low-fi, pared-down electro pop ditties, Natural Sympathies is an eclectic mix of playful vocal harmonies, imaginative lyrics, insolent drum machine beats, organ and synth.
