WASI blends the likes of Matt and Kim and Tegan and Sara to create a reminiscent soundtrack to those So Cal nights of skinny dipping and angsty-garage punk shows. The riot pop trio hone their fierce do-it-yourself mentality and uplifting beats as they combine their anthemic pop sound with dance-fueled rock.
Lucy & La Mer
Lucy & La Mer is the American Folk-Pop project of singer/songwriter Lucy LaForge.
The Folk-Pop band will be releasing their debut EP Little Spoon this April 6th, 2015. The long-awaited record includes 5 original tracks, written by lead singer Lucy LaForge and recorded live at a home studio in Echo Park. Their songs, described as "a cutesy yet sardonic and eccentric blend of a Folk, Alternative, and Pop sound" were written by LaForge during a rough patch post-college, when she took to living out of boat and learned how to play ukulele in between grad school applications.
"We can expect an arsenal of instruments to appear [on the upcoming EP]" reported Free Bike Valet music blogger Dan Frazier. Fitting somewhere between a Wes Anderson soundtrack and an Ingrid Michaelson album, the debut EP Little Spoon will be officially self-released on April 6th, 2015.
Lucy leads an acoustic collaboration of musicians on her baritone ukulele, including GRAMMY winning percussionist Matthew Cook (LA Percussion Quartet/ Partch Ensemble) and jazz bassist Jon Lee Keenan (LA Master Chorale). The trio was voted to be part of the Echo Park Rising Music Festival in 2014 and also performed for Los Angeles' Mayor Garcetti at the Sierra Club's 50th Anniversary last year.
Lucy collaborates with local West Coast artists, as well as international acts (touring with Australian singer/songwriters in 2014). She also performed as a back-up singer for EDM legend Moby in two of his live shows in 2014.
Their homemade record is a small collection of ukulele-driven pop songs that poke at the seriousness of being an adult, both in romantic relationships and as a working professional. In their biting single "Just Friends," Lucy unapologetically conveys a "veracious account of today's hook up generation" says Life of A Rockstar journalist Nicole Hanratty. Their debut song raised enough support from fans in 2013 to fully fund the band's first music video via a Kickstarter Campaign.
Lucy & La Mer's single "Just Friends" is Now Available on iTunes
"I'm so grateful to have constant support from my fans," Lucy stated. "It's reassuring to know that people are relating to the songs and are excited to hear more. We can't wait to see what they think of Little Spoon."
Lucy & La Mer's debut EP Little Spoon was recorded by Jonathan Nesvadba at Pearl Tone Studios (Moby / Larry Gatlin) and mixed by Bill Rahko (Paul McCartney / Daft Punk ). It was Mastered by Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road Studios and will be released on April 6th, 2015.
While members Annabelle Maginnis and Kofi Asare-Aboagye met in college, MetronOhm was not fully formed until March of 2017 when Hunter Craig officially joined the crew. It was a perfect fit. Kofi and Annabelle both operate without music theory knowledge. Hunter brought much needed technical skill, musical expertise, performance experience and critical input to the table. They've crawled their way out of pay-to-play gigs unscathed. Now they can be caught in some of he major venues around LA including The Echo, Harvard & Stone, The Satellite, Resident LA, The Mint, and more. Still awaiting their first tour, they've traveled to San Francisco to play Bottom of the Hill, and to Austin, Texas to perform at SXSW. They made a presence in the local summer festival circuit playing the KCRW event, Chinatown Summer Nights, as well as, Echo Park Rising. MetronOhm recorded their first EP, Matter, primarily in November 2016, releasing it on April 19th 2017, and have been recording and performing consistently since.
She is a writer, musician and L.A. native. She debuted her solo act at Echo Park Rising summer of 2016, formed a full live band and released the “Who The Fuck Is Taleen Kali?” cassette tape via Bandcamp this Spring, voted a “New & Notable” release with “fuzzy, fizzy pop guitars.” She’s headed into the studio to record her debut solo EP entitled “SOUL SONGS” (named after a lyric zine of the same title) slated for release later this year.
A multi-hypenate to the core, she is Editor-in-Chief of the art and music minded DUM DUM Zine and teaches Kali Punk Yoga workshops in venues, galleries, DIY spaces, and private lessons throughout Los Angeles.
Poetry, essays and other writing appears in The Onion, FILTER, Entropy, SPIN, Funhouse Magazine, The Bushwick Review, Whole Beast Rag, The NewerYork, TL;DR Magazine, and zines all over the country.
