Dot Dash, Bottled Up
1811 14th St. NW
Washington, DC, 20009
From the makers of Julie Ocean, Minor Threat, Government Issue, Swervedriver, Youth Brigade, and Strange Brigade comes Dot Dash. Impeccable post-punk with an impeccable pedigree.
Bottled Up is a new surf/goth power-pop quintet from DC. RIYL Oh Sees, Shannon and the Clams, Pujol, or the Growlers. Their first release "Bottled Up" came out in May, 2017 and was released on tape by Maximum Pelt records in Chicago. Originally started in the Bay Area with former members of the Shari La La's, the band's lead singer moved to D.C. to get his life together. Currently performing live in DC w/ Alex Dahms (drums), Colin Kelly (bass/vox) former Young Rapids, James Dietz (synth/vox) also in Forces, and Mike Mastrangelo (guitar/vox) former MAG, and Nikhil Rao (guitar/vox).
Yesferatu is sequential circuits, slinky bass lines and a southern drawl. Formed in Washington D.C. in early 2017 by veterans of musical communities as widespread as Minneapolis, New York, Alabama, DC and later, Medellin, the band owes as much to Giorgio Moroder, Chic and David Byrne as it does to Tom Waits, Hunter S. Thompson and American superhero comics. Their live show embodies the blurry buzz of a melodic fever dream, an insistent melange of ear worm synth hooks, crackling rhythmic dynamics and punch-drunk vocal hollers. It's as vibrant a thing as DC's musical kaleidoscope has to offer.
