Darren Hanlon and Shelley Short - Private Parlor Show (($10 adv/$15 day of show))

Darren Hanlon

After years of touring the far flung corners of Australia and the greater world, Australian folk singer Darren Hanlon has carved a sacred place in the hearts of many who cross his path.

With six acclaimed albums under his belt he is currently touring his latest release 'Where Did You Come From?' which sprung from an epic adventure in the American south. Songs were recorded in New Orleans, Memphis, Muscle Shoals, Nashville and Clarksdale, with an array of musicians he met along the way, from legend instrumentalists of popular music Spooner Oldham (Neil Young, Bob Dylan etc), David Hood (Aretha Franklin etc), Howard Grimes (Al Green) to talented unknown buskers and street musicians he just stumbled upon.

The last 12 months have seen Hanlon through a highly productive period which included a 26 date tour of the Australian outback, a solo two month tour of the US supporting Courtney Barnett and teaming up with previous touring buddy Stephin Merritt (Magnetic Fields). From there an invitation to the UK saw him play a main stage solo set at the prestigious Green Man Festival in Wales, as well as a stop in Sweden for an intimate show in the famous Folklore Centrum, curated by his hero Izzy Young, a living legend eulogized as promoting Bob Dylan’s first New York show back in the 60s.

Shelley Short

Shelley Short is an artist from Portland, Oregon, whose 6th album 'Pacific City' just released on Mississippi Records is garnering much praise. "Pacific City’s demureness is intoxicating...its charms are dependent upon repeated listens, and in the secret appeals of headier songcraft," says Paste Magazine.

Previous to this she has been heavily involved with much of Portland's rich musical lineage, having collaborated with both M Ward and Decemberists (she sings on their latest album) and many others. But through her own music she has enchanted listeners and amassed fans in a grassroots fashion throughout the world. Beguiling and anachronistic, Shelley writes and sings songs based on the rich history of the music she fell in love with as a child.
