Doors 2:30 PM / Show 3:00 PM
Jaws, the ultimate summer blockbuster film, is coming to the Smith Opera House to be shown on the largest screen in the Finger Lakes.
Each of the five screenings will feature a special twist for movie-goers. On Friday, August 18, Lester Friedman, Emeritus Professor of Media and Society at Hobart and William Smith Colleges will give a brief introduction and talk about the film at 7:30pm. Author of Citizen Speilberg, Friedman has taught courses on the director and the cinema of the 1970s, including classes on the Jaws movie itself.
At the Saturday, August 19 and Sunday August 20 matinees (3pm), movie-goers are encouraged to come dressed in Jaws-themed costumes. Best costumes will be awarded their pick of a floatie to ease their next venture into the water.
Movie-goers at all the screenings will be given a raffle ticket and be entered into a drawing to win a cocktail hour cruise for six aboard Geneva’s famed African Queen, an iconic vessel owned by Captain Steven Venuti. Named for the boat featured in the movie by the same name, the colorful African Queen will provide lucky winners a great outing, with a promised bypassing of all Seneca Lake sharks.
Finally, Swedish Fish candies will be provided for snacking at no additional cost to all who attend the screening.
