The Scumfrog (Earth Wired Orchestra)
25 years after his first DJ gig, and 10 years since his first successful album, Jesse Houk aka The Scumfrog continues to do exactly what he feels like doing; recording his most personal album to date “In Case We’re All Still Here”. Going back to his roots of psychedelic and deep influences, mixed with a wink at sci-fi and a deep understanding of what makes a solid underground groove, Jesse teams up with Armada Music for a journey into Deep House and Tech House. Beside his widely acclaimed song with Sting “If I Ever Lose My Faith”, the album features collaborations with Static Revenger, Vince Elliott, Vassy, and Christian Burns, while other tracks on the album contain Jesse’s own signature vocals.
Not particularly inspired by the commercial side effects of the recent EDM explosion, The Scumfrog decided to retreat to the underground in 2011 with the release of “A Place Where We Belong” on his Facebook page; a project that spawned singles on prestigious labels like 1605, Floorplay, Inkfish, and Armada. He restricted his live shows strictly to venues that prioritize music and sound before bottle service and bachelorette parties, further reflecting his strong commitment to underground sounds, and to making a connection with people that share his love and vast knowledge of music.
Prior to his renewed alliance with the underground, The Scumfrog was mostly known for his award winning stripped-down remixes of artists like Missy Elliott, New Order, Kylie Minogue, and Annie Lennox, and his collaborations writing/producing techno oriented works with David Bowie and Cyndi Lauper. And now, with his Sting project "If I Ever Lose My Faith," The Scumfrog strongly displays his deep House roots, while still giving mass appeal to the main vocal mix.
As a DJ, The Scumfrog has toured the world many times over, and since 2009 he hosts a weekly radio show/podcast Glam Scum International, showcasing the side of Electronic Dance music that is not for everyone.
Kerala Dust Live (Laut & Luise)
KERALA DUST seeks to bridge that divide between electronic music and traditional songwriting, drawing on influences as far and wide as Tom Waits, Talking Heads and Abdulla Rashim.
Currently based in South London, the strange and excessive confusion of the city is reflected back in the anonymity of Kerala Dust’s basement studio. Whether as a solo artist in production or as a live trio in performance : the members within the inclusive isolation of this project would like you to dance while also wondering if there’s really a point to anything. The realisation that there is no point will merely be liberating.
Petre Inspirescu (a:rpia:r Romania)
In his adoptive town, Bucharest, Pedro aka Petre Inspirescu has long been a pivotal figure alongside his frequent accomplices Rhadoo and Raresh. He started djing in 1999, in the long regretted Web Club.
Four years ago he became resident at Circoloco, Dc10 Ibiza and since then, his way of feeling and understanding electronic music changed completely. In the last three years, his appearances throughout the whole world have brought his name to many listeners' lips, heightening interest in the fertile Romanian scene, an unexpected outpost of advanced electronic music.
From the very beginning Pedro has been strongly affected by deep house tunes and the multitude variety of grooves - not only in electronic music. His DJ sets are as sonically baffling as they are irresistibly groovy; as a producer, his tracks are as unhinged as they are methodical. He equally owns the label [a:rpia:r], with Rhadoo and Raresh , other details being completely useless. If you listened to him at least once, you know what we're talking about!
Rachel Torro (Public Works/Permission to Land)
Rachel Torro is carving out a unique space in the San Francisco House Music scene with an aesthetic that draws from her adventurous musical background. Her musical passion has been influenced by artists like Radiohead, Pink Floyd and LCD Soundsystem. She combines a mature breadth of taste with a youthful playfulness colored by her post-adolescent history of rave antics & psychedelic rock revelry. Her song selections weave a voice that is all her own. Minimal, deep and tech house sensibilities build upon and support each other in a grounded but intricately textured experience. In addition to sharing the stage with staples like Pete Tong, NU, Hot Since 82, Mira and Lee Burridge, Rachel is the resident of some of San Francisco & New York's most infamous underground arenas. On weekends she can be found warming up the dance floor for some of the best lineups in the city as the first and only resident of The Public Works. On the East Coast: the ZERO Party collective famous for their lavish boat parties and contrasting warehouse events. And lastly, at San Francisco's newest open-air Sunday weekly, Permission to Land at The Midway SF.
