Aparna N' Jo Show
Aparna and Jo are many things to many people: comedians, scarecrows, junior chefs, crayons. Suffice it to say they know what it's like to be an outsider looking in. Join them as they navigate their way through a show with the help of their foolish friends who agreed to help them. Their only promise is they will delight and confuse you, not in that order. Actually, no promises. Scarecrows have enough on their plate as is.
Aparna Nancherla is delighted you are here. She’s a comedian of the stand-up variety, but can often be seen sitting. She recently worked as a writer and performer for Late Night with Seth Meyers on NBC. You can also catch her on the current season of Inside Amy Schumer on Comedy Central and on the upcoming season of Judd Apatow’s Love on Netflix.Other credits include writer and performer on Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell and appearances on Conan, Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, @midnight, Adam Devine’s House Party, Last Comic Standing, and Night Train with Wyatt Cenac. She has also done videos for Above Average, Refinery29, Funny or Die, Slate V, and MTV Other. Aparna has accumulated a list of ‘top comedian’ lists and awards including: Variety’s “Top Ten Comics to Watch 2016,” Shorty Nomination for “Best Comedian on Social Media 2016,” Vulture’s “50 Comedians You Should Know in 2015,” Marie Claire’s “Funniest Women of 2015,” Time Magazine’s “140 Top Tweeters of 2014,” Jezebel’s “Comedy Queens of 2014,” Time Out NY’s “10 Funniest Women in New York,” Flavorpill’s “11 Essential Young Comedians in New York City,” LA Weekly’s “12 Comedy Acts to Watch” and Serial Optimist’s “10 Comics You Must Know.”
Jo Firestone is a comedian based in Brooklyn, New York. Her work can be seen on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Chris Gethard Show, and heard on WFMU. She was recently named a New Face at the 2016 Just for Laughs Festival. If you like puns, check out Punderdome: A Card Game for Pun Lovers. If you don't like puns, please disregard. You can also see Jo doing stand-up in different basements around the city. Hope you like basements!
Claudia Cogan is a comic on the rise. She's been on Last Comic Standing 7 as a semi-finalist, been nominated three times for an Excellence in Comedy in New York (ECNY) award and won the first ever Time Out New York Joke of the Year nod. Claudia is an alum of UCB Theater improv school and played on several house teams. She has performed at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival and at clubs and colleges around the country.
Born an anchor baby in London, Mehran single-handedly rescued his Iranian family from the Ayatollah Khomeini. Ever gracious, teenage Mehran evened the score in the United States by dropping out of college and taking up homosexuality.
Honing his sharp sense of the absurd while working at Harvard University, Mehran's early experience navigating regime change came in handy when he personally escorted deposed president Larry Summers off the property. He would later go on to produce several successful shows with the University-affiliated Oberon Theater.
A quick riser in the Boston comedy scene, Mehran was named Best Comedian in Boston by the Boston Phoenix, and was a two time finalist in the International Boston Comedy Festival. At Emerson College's Semel Theater, Mehran recorded a half hour of comedy for Die Laughing, produced by Friends co-creator, Kevin Bright.
Mehran has opened for such acts as Maz Jobrani, Tom Green and Eugene Mirman. He works regularly with some of the hottest up-and-comers in comedy and has been in the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival for the last four years. He has played to crowds of thousands at leading venues, like the Wilbur Theater, the Berklee Performance Center, and the Lisner Auditorium and has toured extensively at colleges and universities. A leading MC in the emerging neo-burlesque scene, Mehran plays to an audience of 30,000 each December at the historic Somerville Theater.
He recently moved to Manhattan, where he lives with his husband and his tiny idiot dog.
Marie was recently named a 2017 New Face of Comedy at the international JFL Comedy Festival in Montreal. She's appeared in GQ Magazine, MTV's GirlCode, MTV2's Vidiots, VH1's All Jokes Aside, TruTV's Late Night Snack and was the host of Oxygen's Very Real Talk. She's been featured in Time Out NY and is the on-air host of 99.5FM's "Tall Tales in the Big City." Marie is also co-hosts a the weekly podcast: The Unofficial Expert.
