NRVS LVRS (pronounced “Nervous Lovers”) is the dreamy darkwave project of husband & wife duo Andrew Gomez and Bevin Fernandez. While citing acts like Massive Attack, Can, and Kate Bush as influences, their music flirts with caustic electro-pop elements similar to that of The Knife, Bat for Lashes, or Crystal Castles. The dulcet tones of Fernandez’ soaring vocals complimented by Gomez’ low crooning glide over layers of ominous synths, driving guitar, and precise percussion to create compelling electronic soundscapes.
San Francisco natives Gomez and Fernandez —recording as NRVS LVRS since 2014— can be found offstage crate digging at Amoeba and supporting the Bay Area art scene. The pair’s 2015 debut LP on Breakup Records The Golden West was praised by SF Weekly as “crepuscular and opaque, with a grimy layer to it that thinly disguises the vein of pop running through the song[s].” NRVS LVRS has since opened for acts like Jagwar Ma and Telekinesis and received glowing reviews from PopMatters and Noisey. They spent the summer of 2016 recording new music with producer Larry Crane at Jackpot! Studio in Portland and recently released their sophomore album Electric Dread on June 30th, 2017.
Abbot Kinney is a rock band that thrives on big vocal hooks, a heavy, intricate rhythm section and an ambitiously grand scope, and while lead singer-songwriter Jared Swanson was certainly influenced by the “alternative” label of yesterday, his music wholly belongs to the 21st century. The group’s new EP The Night not only challenges the listener’s conception of what an indie rock song can sound like in a scaled-down, irony-charged modern music scene; it also represents a sonic evolutionary step forward. 2011’s self-titled debut was a solid introduction to the world: polished production values, swirling, complex instrumentation, thematically consistent lyrics. The Night is more personal, more anthemic, the sound of a songwriter coming into his own and finding a distinct, unmatched voice, one full of longing, hope, sometimes doubt but never resignation. A voice that will forever banish the term “alternative” to history. A voice that encapsulates the here, the now, the beautiful and tragic present, and the vision for a brighter future. The forthcoming EP The Night, including the singles “Can We Become”, “We Can’t Stop Now”, and “It’s The Middle of the Night”, is available for order.
MANICS is a Left Brain / Right Brain production duo by Jordan Deherrera and Chris Sanders. Their "Personalities EP" was released in April 2012 and received critical acclaim. The project was a strange convergence of Indie Dance and 110 bpm electro (known as moombahton). Following this release, the duo has released some 20+ originals and remixes with large and small labels including Dim Mak Records, Oh My God Its Techno Music, Temple Music Group and more.
One year after their first EP, Manics started their own label, POPGANG Records. As curators and producers, the duo aims to release quality independent dance music that breaks away from cooky cutter "EDM." Deep house, Techno, Trap, and Indie Dance/ Nu Disco are all part of the POPGANG Sound.
