Nappy Roots is an American alternative Southern rap quintet that originated in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1995 and is best known for its hit 2002 single "Po' Folks".
The group consists of Milledgeville, Georgia native Fish Scales and Kentucky natives Skinny Deville, B. Stille, Ron Clutch. Oakland, California native R. Prophet has left the group to pursue a solo career in 2007. Kentucky native Big V (2) has left the group in 2012.
Uptowne Buddha’s story began about six years ago, when emcee Vance Coles and guitar player Sam Terkel were encouraged by a mutual friend to get together to write music. Throughout the years the project grew in content and membership, bringing together a diverse group of musicians from several areas of greater Cleveland. As Terkel relocated to Athens, Ohio for four years, the band remained active and came to know Athens as a second home.
The group has seen a few membership changes but remains true to its fundamental sound and continues to push boundaries. Since their inception, the band has played numerous headlining and support shows around Cleveland in venues such as the Beachland Ballroom & Tavern, the Grog Shop, Mahall’s, the Cleveland Agora, as well as at summer festivals around Ohio and in various venues throughout Athens, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, and more. Over the past several months, the band has been working in the studio to track 10 new original songs and is nearing the final stages of production for an expected Spring 2015 release.
This is a diverse group of musicians with an even more diverse set of musical influences that is “bound to move you” and thanks you in advance for all of your support!
Archie L Green
"We've been bigging-up Cleveland-born rapper/producer Archie Green...[Listening to Archie] feels like a mixture between the lyrical content and beats of Kanye West's College Dropout and the rapping gymnastics of Jay Z's Reasonable Doubt. " - VICE
Cleveland, Ohio producer/emcee Archie Green in many ways is unconventional in today’s era of rap. Green refuses to put on a "rapper suit" instead opting to be himself – what a novel idea.
Having earned a Master’s degree [in Music Business] from NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, Green is an educated man and he raps like it. His rhymes are eloquent and his beats are soulful in the tradition of other Midwest emcees like Common, Elzhi, Rhymefest, and Kanye West.
Green is also an advocate for mental health, having himself been a victim of clinical depression. His introspective single on overcoming his personal demons, "Layers," which was premiered at VICE.com, garnered over 25,000 streams in 2 weeks. The 31 year old artist hopes to encourage more dialogue on this common mental disorder, and believes that lives can be changed and even saved by 'talking it out.'
Archie's brand is CLASS. CLASS is an acronym which stands for Creatively Learning to Achieve Sustainable Success. He is just as passionate about learning and education as he is about music. CLASS is a lifestyle that encourages one to learn and acquire new skills everyday to become successful. CLASS is also a way of life touching on etiquette, appearance and honoring one's roots.
With almost 20 years under his belt, Green moonlights as a Music Business Consultant to young, aspiring artists looking to take control of their respective music careers. In Fall 2016 Archie plans on launching his consulting firm, ARCHIE GREEN Music Consulting (AGMC) in efforts to give back and to help develop raw talent in the hip-hop world. With the hats of emcee, songwriter, producer, consultant and mental health advocate ARCHIE GREEN plans to keep things CLASSY in the music world.
It was Christmas night in 2014 when DJ Red-I (Brittany Benton) and Playne Jayne (Samantha Flowers) joined forces to form the hip-hop duo, FreshProduce. What originally began as a few impromptu ciphers, soon became the full-length album, We Are FreshProduce., a blend of thought-provoking lyrics paired with lush, soulful beats. In 2015, they released their first single, “More Like You.”
Case Bargé is an alternative, soulful hip-hop artist from Cleveland, Ohio and the founder of Alls Lost Outside Our Fantasy (ALOOF Recs), a creative collective and independent music label working towards social transformation through artistic expression. His motivation is to inspire and raise levels of consciousness through his creations by waking up those who are distracted by what is sold and exploited in today's mainstream music and media. Whether it's the exploitation of violence, drugs, and women or the destruction of politics, religion, and race; these are topics that drive him to better not only the music industry, but our society as a whole.
Powerful messages come from the once struggling homeless artist that knows about hunger all too well. Making ends meet any way possible, Bargé walked around the grimy streets of Cleveland day and night as he recited lines with every step. He managed to get through hardships after his close encounter to death, getting robbed at gun point, battling a hernia in the brain, and having to learn to walk again. With his journey and struggles, he was given the purpose to be that role model he never had and to empower generations.
Not only is he a recording artist and business owner, Case Bargé is known for his performances. Being able to engage with any crowd, he can go from a poetic a cappella to forming a mosh pit. Although he has produced a great amount of his own shows, he has also opened up for national artists such as, Twista, Scarface, Gun Play, DMC, Casey Veggies, Dom Kennedy, Lil Debbie, Denzel Curry, and King Chip,
Case Bargé took you through his struggle with his debut album at the end of 2015, ‘INSANITY' but now he is in a better place. Juggling between creating music, performing, and being the CEO of his own company, he spent all of 2016 in LA where he grew ALOOF, produced and performed at his sold-out festival, Peace of Mind, and organized a private event for Rihanna’s FentyxPuma Pop-Up shop on Melrose Ave. Now, Bargé is back in the studio, ready to share a 3-part project, ‘Mind', ‘Body', ‘Spirit' which brings a whole new harmonious vibe and positive outlook on life. Fans can expects the first part, 'Mind' in late March.
