Markeisha Sings Nina Simone: A Tribute to the High Priestess of Soul

A New York City based singer-songwriter, Markeisha Ensley was awarded the 2011 Abe Olman Scholarship Award for Excellence in Songwriting from the Songwriters Hall of Fame/Songwriters Guild of America, with previous recipients including John Legend. Also an actress, she originated the role of Nina Simone in the new concert drama, Little Girl Blue, which showcased at the National Black Theater Festival in Nina’s home state of North Carolina. Markeisha has performed all over the world, most recently in Japan, Paris and the Philippines. Combining the flavors of gospel, jazz and R&B music, she strikes an uplifting groove and graces the stage with a powerful presence.
