Waker was founded by childhood friends and songwriting duo Chase Bader (vocals, acoustic) and Conor Kelly (electric guitar). The group mashes soul, rock & roll and funk into an eclectic, danceable sound, focusing on songs that aim for the heart, head… and feet.
Originally known as Koa, Waker was christened in late summer 2016 following the addition of drummer Dave Czuba and organist/pianist David Crutcher to the already talented lineup of Ryan Ladd (bass), Alex Mathews (sax) and Ryan McClanahan (percussion). With a name that stems from the line, “Getting close to bedtime, time to wake,” in their song, “Fever,” the intention has always been clear: to “wake people” with their music. In a short amount of time the band has already conquered festival stages at ACL, Hangout, SXSW, Firefly and Wakarusa. They’ve toured with JJ Grey & Mofro, Moon Taxi, Galactic and The Wailers, and recently recorded a session for Audiotree Live.
Since the release of their 2015 EP the band has continued their nonstop regiment of touring and writing. Look for new music in 2017.
Waker is an experience meant to be shared with others.
Lola Rising is a Colorado-based Indie Folk Island Rock Band comprising of Denver natives Paul Medina Guevara (lead vocals, guitar, ukulele), Woody Roberts (bass guitar, keys, vocals), Kevin Eady (electric guitar, vocals, ukulele), Matt Fink (drums, vocals, percussion), Sarah Joelle Hoffenberg (vocals, keys and percussion), and Joe Z (trumpet).
Inspired from a song Paul once wrote about the passing of his `Lola` (means Grandmother in Filipino), coupled with `Rising` evokes images of spirituality and embraces the human condition. Their dance-able rhythms, honest poetry, and smooth melodic multi-part harmonies makes their music familiar, fun, accessible, vivid, and thought-provoking.
In late 2013, Paul returned from an eight year stint in Japan and joined forces with life-long friends Kevin, Woody (formerly played in the Denver-based reggae/rock band Optimal Frequency), Matt (formerly of the Flash Mob), Sarah (trained Jazz vocalist), and Joe Z (also of Zagriculture).
From the depths of musty parking garages & gangsters in the Tokyo underworld; to fly-fishing the Animas River & crossing the Great Divide, everything inspires us; Lola is on the Rise.
Whether playing for an intimate crowd of 30 inside a packed coffee shop, or singing solo to 300 at Boston College, it’s always been a blessing for Thomas to see the power behind music and community.
This page is designed so he can share his own music, performance schedule, and ambitions to start a non-profit for young musicians.
While performing is great, Thomas believes in the power of music service to others, whether teaching music to disadvantaged children or singing to the elderly on Christmas Day, and supports non-profits that do the same. He is always interested in collaborating on future projects for good and would love to hear your ideas.
Additionally, Thomas is a Colorado native, an avid lover of the outdoors, and a closet-nerd for economics and physics.
Enjoy the tunes and subscribe so you can stay in the loop!
