Burt Bacharach & Hal David Tribute w. Julia Nixon & The Dave Ylvisaker Dozen

The wondrous songs of Burt Bacharach and Hal David were first burned into our hearts during the 60’s & early 70’s when their music was everywhere; on the radio, in the movies and on television. Their utterly distinctive & riveting take on pop music earned them more than 50 top forty hits atop the charts, where they were perched for about 10 years.

The string of hits (I Say a Little Prayer, Walk On By, Do You Know The Way to San Jose, You’ll Never Get To Heaven If You Break My Heart, Alfie, The Look of Love, Always Something There To Remind Me, Message To Michael, What The World Needs Now) kept coming and found the greatest singers of the day such as Dusty Springfield, Jerry Butler, Aretha Franklin, & most prominently, Dionne Warwick, lining up to sing the next Bacharach-David smash. Burt Bacharach’s music is known for its dramatic chord changes, jazz voicings, and tricky rhythms all cleverly disguised within some of the catchiest melodies ever sung. Hal David’s smart and graceful lyrics were of adult concerns sung to an audience of emerging adults, and are notable for their honesty and subtle wit. This show pays close homage to the transcendent arrangements on the original hits including backing vocals, horns and strings that distinguished their songs. Given the music’s subtle complexities, Julia Nixon Sings Bacharach-David is a rare opportunity to experience the magic in a live performance.

Burt Bacharach and Hal David have received the Gershwin Prize, the Kennedy Center Honors and are in the Rock & Roll and Songwriters Hall of Fame. Their music’s popularity continues today as new generations of fans discover the timeless treasures found in their songs.
