Ben Arnold remains a fixture on the Philadelphia musical landscape for the better part of the last 25 years. Originally signed to Columbia Records in the 90's, Ben has since released many label supported and independent records. Always down for the challenge of re-invention and experimentation, you will see him constantly visiting far-flung points on the musical map. He has, for years been involved in collaborative projects such as 4 Way Street (Sanctuary/BMG), US Rails (Blue Rose/Europe), the Los Angeles based indie rock band Pistol For Ringo as well as David Uosikinnen's In The Pocket: Essential Songs Of Philadelphia. His most recent release "Lost Keys", confidently compiles the sounds of Philly Soul, Motown, Stax and a little street corner doo-wop into an energetic and live sounding song cycle of love, in all of it's destructive glory.
Although often touring in Europe, Ben has appeared multiple times on WXPN's World Cafe as well as NPR Mountain Stage, international TV and last winter on a two week tour with LIGHT OF DAY Europe featured with several of the best songwriters the US has to offer. Most recently, Ben has been busy putting the finish on a new American gospel inspired record entitled "Monday Morning Meltdown". With a crusty, curmudgeonly, but loving take on the world around, Ben Arnold continues to reveal more of himself. Always a different day, another mood and another view on the human condition. This is not an artist who has simply paid his dues. Ben Arnold is compelled to doing what he does, and does so with one of the most unique, if little known voices in music today.
On the heels of 2014's "Song Machine" which garnered solid Triple A radio airplay on 88.5 WXPN and Sirius XM's "The Loft" as well as critical praise from Goldmine magazine, songwriter Cliff Hillis is releasing his latest single, "Love Not War."
"Love Not War" gives a nod to the sound and sentiment of 1970's era FM radio while sounding fresh and new, courtesy of the lush musical backing of Patrick Berkery on drums (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Pernice Brothers, Wesley Stace), Jason Loughlin on guitar (Amos Lee, Rachel Yamagata), Greg Maragos on bass and keyboards, Shelley Weiss on violin and David Kershner on trumpet.
Sharing the same title as his upcoming 2016 EP, "Love Not War", the song will be available digitally worldwide on Friday November 13th.
In support of the song's release Hillis will be performing a number of East Coast shows and pursuing a targeted Triple A radio campaign.
Hillis' work has recently garnered praise from notable songwriters:
"Cliff is taking some chances while also delivering some solid pop production, the stuff you'd expect from a big fan of big pop. it's a blast to listen to." - Mike Viola, acclaimed recording artist, producer, and composer
"You know who's really good? Cliff Hillis." - Rhett Miller, singer/songwriter, Old '97s
