Big Sky Documentary Film Festival

Every February the lights in Missoula theater lights are turned down and the curtains go up on the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. Showcasing over 150 documentaries every year, the event is a celebration of non-fiction filmmaking. Film entries come from all around the globe, highlighting families, events, and cultures that aren't often depicted in Hollywood movies.

Along with the screenings, the festival hosts industry events that give enthusiasts and burgeoning documentary filmmakers the chance to work with industry veterans. A five-day DocShop filmmaker's forum includes panel discussions, workshops, and The Big Sky Pitch Session where unknowns get the chance air their ideas for studios such as HBO Documentary Films and Participant Media.

The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival is a program of the Big Sky Film Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Rooted in the heart of the mountain west, BSFI nurtures and elevates non- fiction films that have the power to transform our world, our culture, our youth and ourselves.
