One of techno's biggest stars, Jamie Jones is part of a new guard of house and techno DJs who resonate as artists, party people, djs, and live acts. Jamie was voted the #1 DJ by Resident Advisor, and the demand for his signature brand of bass oriented and groove driven house grew exponentially. Jamie's remix of Azari & III's "Hungry for the Power" that was the quintessential song; heard everywhere in Ibiza and beyond. Jamie has always worked to expand the musical spectrum of his industry; from his first release of "Amazon" in 2006 to his acclaimed Essential Mix filled with rare cosmic disco and timeless underground house on BBC Radio 1 BBC. He also released the hugely popular trippy and hypnotic anthem, "Summertime," on Crosstown Rebels. In 2010, Jamie released a remix of Green Velvet's classic "Flash" that quickly rose on the charts and filled dance floors.
Consistent to his production quality are low wobbly basslines, dissonant and hypnotic keyboard lines, crisp snares, and the aforementioned steady groove.
Jamie Jones is renowned for his innovative music; his cross genre band, Hot Natured; and his pioneering label, hot creations. His endless touring schedule includes nearly every major city and festival around the world; such spectacles as Glastonbury, Tomorrow Land, and Burning Man, as well as highly esteemed clubs like Warung, Fabric, and Womb. In addition, he holds his own weekly party, "Paradise," in Ibiza every summer at the ledgendary DC-10 as well as regular, global pop up parties.
Few DJs have made such a dramatic impact on the underground house and techno scene over the last two years as Hot Creations label owner Lee Foss. Described by DJ Mag as "one of the most talented new forces in modern dance music today" and by fellow future house innovators Art Department as their favourite producer, Lee has quickly catapulted himself into dance music's collective consciousness. Lee and his Hot Natured partner Jamie Jones currently spearhead a whole family of like-minded producers that includes Robert James, Russ Yallop, Richy Ahmed and most recently Danny Daze who are currently re-writing the rulebook of how to make evocative and emotive house music.
Born and raised in Chicago, the birthplace of house, Lee now lives between London and Los Angels. Lee made his name on both sides of the Atlantic playing at clubs like The Standard Rooftop (Lost Angeles), fabric (London), The Marcy Hotel (Brooklyn), Watergate (Berlin), Spybar (Chicago) and DC10 (Ibiza). Lee's rapid rise to prominence has been as much down to his unified but all-encompassing approach to DJing as it has to his pioneering take nu school house and synth-heavy techno, backed up by a string of hit releases on labels like No 19, Culprit, Wolf+Lamb and his own Hot Creations imprint. His unique sound, born out a lifelong love of classic house, 90s hip hop, 80s electro and Detroit techno, combined with fanatical grassroots support from clubbers in both Europe and North America, made him the highest new entrant in Resident Advisor's Top 100 DJs poll last December, coming in at number 36.
While growing up in Chicago, Lee cut his teeth on the clubs and raves of the late 90's, which sparked his interest in house and disco. However, it was a chance visit to Ibiza back in 2001, that changed his whole approach to music that helped steer his musical destiny for the next decade and beyond. It was in Ibiza that summer that he first became friends with Jamie Jones and the pair quickly formed a tight brotherly bond that has recently blossomed into their highly acclaimed Hot Natured partnership. Having spent several years abroad, and heavily inspired by time spent at seminal electro and deep house parties in Ibiza and East London, Lee decided to take all that he'd learnt in Europe and export it back to the USA.
After cutting his teeth in the competitive Chicago dj scene for the better part of a decade, Lee chose to uproot and set up in Los Angeles. Lee decided to work on music full time and soon fell in with Droog who were just setting up Culprit Records which became a platform for his early releases like 'h.e.a.d.s EP' in partnership with Jamie Jones. His bold move to Los Angeles soon started paid off as it helped draw international attention to both his DJing and production work. His real break through came with the release of 'Grinding' on Wolf+Lamb, a track that was picked up and played by DJs right across the spectrum of dance music.
Since then Lee has gone on to release a string of hits on a variety of labels including 'The Edge EP' 'Equilibrium', 'U Got Me' and most recently his 'Starfruit EP', all of which have been independently awarded 'Tune of the Month' in Mixmag at various points over the last year. In addition DJ Magazine voted 'U Got Me' as their number 4 favourite record of 2010, having already featured it in their 'Stone Cold Killers' section earlier in the year.
With this many accolades under his belt in such a short space of time, it would be easy for Lee to rest on his laurels but this couldn't be farther from the case. He's just about to unleash 'Forward Motion' his latest Hot Natured production with Jamie Jones, which was one of the breakout records of Miami this year and is shaping up to be one of the summer's biggest hits. In addition to this he's currently in the studio with Jamie Jones and 'Forward Motion' vocalist Ali Love putting the finishing touches on their forthcoming Hot Natured debut album, which he's producing alongside his own debut artist album due out later this year. With plans to turn Hot Natured into a fully formed live act and tour it globally in 2012, this is already shaping up to be a career-defining year for Lee Foss.
DJ Harvey is absolutely his own man, he is a near mythical character, who's fans and followers refer to themselves as his cult members, or studymasters. Harvey's musical style cannot simply be filed as eclectic or retrospective, he plays whatever he feels, as he feels it, but always for the crowd. Best put by Harvey himself "You can't understand the blues until you've had your heart broken and you can't understand my music till you've had group sex on ecstasy" He is an analogue loving DJ that utilizes reel to reel and effects all conjured live while not being afraid to utilize new technology in the mix too. He is respected and in demand the world over to supply the sounds for a vast array of Clubs, Festivals, Fashion Shows, TV shows, and Private Events.
Arguably the 'last DJ' amongst and in a modern climate of DJ's that play only digital files and turn up moments before their sets, often from other parties in the same night. Harvey will only ever play one party a night arriving early to settle in, tweak the sound and take his crowd on a journey he inspires but they partake in and influence the ride along the way. Harvey seeks out tracks old and new, edits some for his own purposes that become his cult classics, all DJ's have access to the same releases each week but are always asking him where he buys his music. He never releases these exclusive edits preferring to play them to an ever appreciative crowd.
2013 will see Harvey be a headline DJ at the Coachella music festival in California as well as curating tents at other festivals around the world including London's 'Lovebox' for his new traveling party 'Harvey's Discotheque' He will once again tour some of the worlds best clubs including Berghain in Berlin (after which he named his acclaimed Locussolus release) Space in Ibiza, Trouw in Amsterdam and Bla in Oslo. Harvey scored a surf movie soundtrack for legendary California long boarder Joel Tudor which will release in the fall on SmallTown SuperSound Recordings as well as more releases from his Locussolus project.
In accordance with Mayan prophecy, Seth Troxler was, in fact, a gift to the world of techno by intergalactic demigods from the distant future. Rumours that Seth Troxler is actually an alien are untrue; in the early first century these demigods kidnapped the virile first-born child of a Roman centurion and his Egyptian trophy wife. After years of travelling around the western end of the Milky Way studying linear algebra, Byronic verse, city planning, and the essentials of electronic music composition, these demigods lost young Seth to the Old God Horus in a game of trans-dimensional backgammon. Before Horus could consume his soul, disguised as Freemasons, they managed steal the young Seth back, and fearing the wrath of Horus, hid him in the Mid-Western town of Kalamazoo where he was raised by a kindly Amish family.
Since then Seth has gone on to ignite the world of house and techno with a constant barrage of sultry vocal jams, in consecutive years got himself voted Number Three, Two and the number One in the Resident Advisor Top 100 DJ Poll, landed much-vaunted residencies at DC10 (Ibiza), Trouw in (Amsterdam) and Output (New York) and opened series of much-lauded pop-up restaurants around East London called 'Smokey Tails'. He has played many stellar international gigs, notably fabric (London), Panorama Bar (Berlin), Output (New York), Warung (Brazil), Womb (Tokyo), Tenax (Florence), Robert Johnson (Frankfurt), The Rex (Paris), Fuse (Brussels), The Electric Pickle (Miami), plus The Detroit Electronic Music Festival, Glastonbury, Coachella, Sonar and Burning Man. In the studio he has collaborated with such dance luminaries as Matthew Dear, Art Department, Tiefschwarz, Deetron, Subb-an, in addition to groundbreaking remix work done as Visionquest alongside fellow astral refugees Shaun Reeves, Ryan Crosson and Lee Curtiss, remixing artists like Tracy Thorn and David Lynch. 2014 has seen him team up with The Martinez Brother to launch their new Tuskegee label drawing attention on Afro-Latino American icons. In addition to this he's currently plotting two additional new imprints called Soft Touch, focusing on indie rock, and Play It Say It, putting out straight up dancefloor jams.
Troxler is currently in hiding in Ibiza, where he began his self-imposed exile from the United States after sleeping with then-Senator Barak Obama's wife. Seth will remain in Europe until his 33rd birthday, at which point he will ascend upon the Levant and battle his way westward as he reclaims his Kingdom. At least that's what some guy at Burning Man told us.
Satori is inspired to capture electronic world music, where he combines endless blends of seductive trance and mind-altering earthy tones. It is not defined by any-one genre. Satori is here to satisfy any meditative music-lover by provoking a spiritual journey through his infinite sound-garden. Listen as you take on new dimensions of his musical world, where movement, dreaming and creativity are endless. Let the sound live in your heart, harvesting every last memory of dance and rhythm. Satori's sound is more than just a switch on a soundboard; he is the man behind the instrument, creating melodies from the piano, kora, kalimba, and guitar in combination with a deeper form of electronic music.
Since the moment he spun his first record, Damian Lazarus's mission has been a clear and urgent one: to blow away the mediocre, the over-inflated, the obsolete; to seek out and celebrate the energetic, the important, the new. Always rebelling, always going places, "…and to have fun in the process. Playing around with different styles and ideas is what I do best," Lazarus explains.
Driven by an almost childlike curiosity, a vivid imagination and wicked sense of humor, he's used his role as a DJ, label owner and now musician to nurture and share the most exciting and experimental music on the planet. Drawn to the darkness, but buoyed by the light, ever ready to embrace new ideas and different perspectives on music and the dancefloor, Lazarus is always ahead of the curve, with a wry smile on his face and a neat trick up his sleeve, How many DJs do you know who've played 'Reviewing The Situation (from the Oliver! soundtrack, no less) half-speed to a jubilant crowd at DC10 in Ibiza. How many DJs do you know who've received a sitting ovation on the dancefloor?
Damian's tenure at Circo Loco (DC10 Ibiza) has become the stuff of legend and found him consistently breaking boundaries of sound and stamina, freaking out the dancefloor and taking those on it to places they never knew existed, and may never get to again. "I thought a lot about these dj sets when pre-producing the album; especially the idea of placing off and strange melodies within a 4/4 dance music structure. It's amazing what you can achieve when you're into weird stuff", he says.
Inspired by the new energy and possibilities in international club culture and music, Lazarus founded Crosstown Rebels in 2003, the label's records offering all kinds of unique and twisted angles on cutting edge electronic music. Recent releases on Rebels from Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler and Riz MC have found the label consistently breaking new ground and the new imprints CDR (a digital only label) and Parkside Rebels (a more leftfield pop label) are set to change the rules once again.
Damian Lazarus is a believer in giving people something exciting, unusual and idiosyncratic. He lives life to the limit, always rebelling, always moving forward: that's Damian Lazarus.
Icelandic golden child in America and New York native just back from Europe, both Holmar and Greg have both dedicated themselves to the debaucherous worship of all good things that can happen in a dark crowded room with good lighting.
Bringing together a wide variety of influences from house to minimal and disco to techno, first and foremost these guys bring the party to the party. Releases on seminal labels Life and Death, Moodmusic, Music For Freaks, Brique Rouge, Global Underground and their own label, Thugfucker Recordings are proof that there's more to them than just a couple of pretty faces.
Blending the nearly perfect, vividly melodic and breathtakingly diverse potential of electro and dubstep, Tal Levy or Clark Kent, 20 year old native of California, has definitely set to make his mark on the electronic music scene. Citing Bassnectar as an early influence in his taste and production, he's put his musical background in guitar and piano towards creating incredible remixes as well as original productions that are sure to propel him to the forefront of his precocious class of the up and coming peer group of producers he finds himself in. As he makes strides both in musicianship and exposure, the future is definitely looking bright for Clark Kent.
