Aloha Got Soul
Aloha Got Soul is a blog-turned-record label with a mission of bringing rare and relatively unknown music of Hawai‘i to the surface, as well as contributing to the diversity of Hawai‘i’s music scene and strengthening its reputation in the global music community.
Roger Bong started Aloha Got Soul in 2010 after hearing DJ Muro’s Hawaiian Breaks mix. In 2015, after five years of digging up out-of-print music and retelling artists’ stories through blog posts, interviews, and mixtapes, Roger evolved Aloha Got Soul into a record label.
Maryanne Ito age 33, Samoan/Japanese from Honolulu Hawaii is a soul singer/songwriter/performer likened to Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. This independent artist combines a soulful-jazz style with R&B and Hip Hop.
She is a 2015 Na Hoku Hanohano Award Winner in Hawaii for Best R&B Album as well as a Vodafone Pacific Music Award Winner in New Zealand for the “Peoples Choice” Best International Artist.
Her debut album “Waking Up” reached No.4 in the Official UK Soul Chart after only 6 weeks.
Mother of two, Maryanne writes daily and loves to perform live with a full band or intimate acoustic sets.
She collaborated Jemere Morgan (from Morgan Heritage) on the popular single “How I Feel” to give it a nice reggae edge. Maryanne continues to captivate listeners with her vocal talent, her adept play on words and her raw emotion that has converted first-time listeners into loyal fans.
Her first international tour was in European and hosted by Musiconnex UK where she performed with Hollands premier acid-jazz band Tristan at world class venues such as Jazz Cafe London & Bizz’ Art in Paris, Sugar Factory in Amsterdam and more.
Ito is currently back in the studio in Hawaii working on her 2nd album.
