Misner & Smith with Cascada de Flores (Arwen & Jorge)...A Night of Captivating Duos - Private Parlor Show (($10 adv/$15 day of show))

Soaring vocal harmonies and story-filled, poetic songwriting - Misner & Smith's sound harkens back to the bedrock of modern american rock & folk. Paying tribute to strong influences like Simon & Garfunkel, The Band, and Buffalo Springfield, they invent a sound all their own, seducing listeners with music that captures longing and belonging in the same moment. Their partnership in music is a search for meaning. The songs yearn for connection, ache for understanding, relish in mystery, and rejoice in creation. In a world that often feels to be crumbling down around us, they dig deep, and find hope in simple things, in the beauty that surrounds us all.

Cascada de Flores (Duo of Arwen & Jorge)

Arwen Lawrence (voice) and Jorge Liceaga (guitar) are the creative force behind the music ensemble Cascada de Flores, and strive to play the tastiest selections of the American songbooks (Mexican and Caribbean in particular). The duet brings together a wide variety of genres (from bolero to bambucos, rancheras to trova) with a dizzying number of traditional instruments, such as tres cubano, guitarra de son and jarana of Veracruz, vihuela, donkey's jaw bone and percussive dance.

In their 17 years playing together, Arwen & Jorge have traveled to Cuba and Mexico to learn from the old (and young) folks who carry these musical traditions, and strive to bring this authenticity into their music, be it in their concerts, records or creative collaborations.

Coming out of the release of their 5th album, the duet continues to swim the waters (some uncharted) that lap the shores of Mexico, the Spanish Caribbean and even the north with its big bands and ballads, while bringing out a bit more of their own creativity in the form of composition and poetry. … And they enjoy inciting sing-a-longs.

“Featuring Arwen's ravishing voice and guitarist Jorge Liceaga's supple accompaniment, Cascada de Flores bring intoxicating energy to the Latin American songbook” Andrew Gilbert, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News
