One of our most treasured Academy team members, Gerd Janson is the quintessential DJ's DJ, unearthing the gems that get other music lovers hot and excited. The man has his plate full. Whether at the helm of the long-running Liquid club night at Frankfurt's Robert Johnson with DJ comrade Thomas Hammann, dishing out simmering analog House as co-owner of label Running Back, or penning many a story for Germany's Spex and Groove magazines, not to mention his scholarship of American studies, he seems to run on more powerful batteries than the rest of us. Enjoy this adventure through magic dance music new & old, with special guest appearance by Kool DJ Pink Alert. It's risky, but it'll make you frisky.
Robert James is one of a new breed of artists that hail from the city of Leeds, the UK's second key stronghold of underground house and techno outside the Capital. While he made his name DJing around the city and in Ibiza his career is set to explode exponentially this summer once his debut release 'Sleep Moods' drops on Jamie Jones and Lee Foss' new Hot Creations label. His sound is completely unique, born from a strong sense of groove born from summers spent on the dance floor at DC10 in Ibiza and a healthy ambition to turn house music on its head. He effortlessly creates music aimed squarely at the dance floor that is distinct, infectious and appeals as much to the head and the heart as it does the feet. For the last two years Rob has been regular fixture at clubs like The Mint Club and My House in Leeds, the Zoo Project and Space in Ibiza and the Rainbow in Birmingham but once his debut release on Hot Natured drops his diary is set to explode with incoming bookings from as far afield as Moscow and the US. These Gigs and others have seen him play alongside the likes of Carl Cox, Jamie Jones, Layo and Bushwacka, Clive Henry and Dyed Soundorom to name a few. 2010 is set to be a big year for Robert James... get used to the name as you'll be hearing it a lot more over the coming months.
Max first made an impact on the underground music scene in 2011, he was just 23 when he had his debut track aired on the prolific Pete Tong show on BBC Radio 1. Since then Max has released a wide range of music, proving that his production is extensively versatile, having the capabilities to create tracks that are deep and musical, rolling and clubby and everything in between. Resonance Records is also a huge part Max, starting the label up just 8 months into his djing career with his partners in crime, AJ Christou and Mark Horsey. Together they have created an imprint that not is blossoming with up and coming talent from every corner of the globe, it has a range of monumental established artists that are playing the biggest parties on the planet week in week out. Max has left his mark on some of the biggest clubs and cities in the world, storming through Mexico, USA, South America, Australia, various parts of Europe and of course constantly traveling up and down the UK. It includes headlining the biggest club known to man, Privilege, along with playing and headlining other venue's like Sankeys, both Manchester and Ibiza, The Warehouse Project, Space, Fabric, Pacha, Ministry Of Sound and many more.
Jefferson909 is a collaborative effort from Skyler Gross (Housing Corp) and NSR (The Deep). The LA and NY natives, respectively, released their debut single, "There Was a Guy" this past fall. Since then, they've shared stages with Route 94, Jonas Rathsman, Shiba San, Tensnake, Yelle, and Jon Hopkins (to name a few). You can catch them in a windowless studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn, funneling coffee, trying to make hit records.
