The Pin Show
The Pin Show is an annual event that provides a platform for both emerging and established designers, mostly from the South West Region, and musical talent that aims to create an experience unlike anything before it.
The creative team brings together a show that provides the audience with the latest designs from designers you know and those you will discover, in every aspect of fashion. Whether you come for the streetwear, evening looks, bridal or the swimwear, you will be immersed in over 160 walks from more than 22 designers to the fast paced musical performances of Zhora and Friends. In years passed The Pin Show has featured designers like Nha Khahn, Lucy Dang, Nine Muses, Isabella Varella, Jesse Thaxton, Levinity, Erica Dawn Woodward and the musical talent of Zhora, Sarah Jaffe, Sam Lao, Danny Church, Demarkus Lewis, Dezi 5, Bethan, and more.
In 2017, we have elevated the platform to answer the call of an increasing Established Designer base in our area to include more creative input from the established designers, a larger light, sound, and structure installation by BBD Revolving, a more influential musical set with Zhora and Friends, and an inclusive ground floor marketplace, where attendees can shop the looks from the runway. As a sold out show at the Bomb Factory in 2016, you can bet that The Pin Show Team aims to increase the attention for Texas in areas of Fashion, Music, and Installation.
Musical Line Up:
Blue The Misfit
Zhora's has a reputation for high-energy performances and striking visuals. Her addictive melodies and imagery give a thirst for a fresh pop voice and exciting new flavor. Vocalist Taylor Rea of Zhora was introduced to North Texas as a pop electronic act with genre bending aesthetics and sweetheart synth ballads. Soaring through a voyage of light and sound, Rea's voice encompasses the heart and surrenders your soul to the rhythm and beats.
Zhora has opened for names such as Berlin, Sneaky Sound System, Yacht, JMSN, IAMX, A Place To Bury Strangers, Sarah Jaffe, On An On, ONUINU, Snowmine and many more.
Blue, The Misfit
Los Angeles born & Dallas raised, the experimental producer and cultivating lyricist, Brandon "Brain Gang" Blue started his musical voyage in 2004. Running with the torch that has passed on by his influences (which range from Timbaland & The Neptunes to Danger Mouse & The Gorillaz), Blue has always felt like his time is now as the music industries next innovative producer-artist combo.
Blue is well known for his extensive production work with national hip hop artist such as, Kendrick Lamar (P&P, P&P 1.5, & Faith), Mac Miller (Down The Rabbit Hole), Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, & Dorrough Music. And he's also praised as one of Dallas' best producers based off the work he put together as half of the groundbreaking duo known as Sore Losers in '09-'10 (Free Loaders, Get A Life).
As a producer, Blue prides himself on evolving and progressing as a musician. Though most of his success is in the Hip-Hop genre, he has an everlasting love for adding all forms of music into his own, especially those of the electronic nature. You can easily hear a trance arranged synthesizer here, an alternative rock sequence there, Texas "screw" style vocals in the backgrounds, and dub step wobble baselines behind it all. He simply calls his approach "experimental", because he won't limit himself to toying around with one genre.
As an artist, Blue takes a different approach to rap than your average hip-hop artist. He looks at rap as a form of self expression to share his artistic side which takes you on a journey with well thought out concepts and stories of his life experiences rather than to "out rap" everyone in the industry with metaphors and punch-lines.
Looking to expose this new sound to a larger audience, Blue released an EP entitled "Numb." at the end of 2011 and it was well received amongst the public. Numb. held a huge internet presence on Hip Hop blogs (2DopeBoyz, OnSmash, Pigeons & Planes, Sneak Hype, & More), proving that there is a lane for something as unique and different as Blue's vision.
Blue plans to continue this success into 2012. He promises that this is the year that he really bounces into the national spotlight as both a trendsetter in sound and as a provocative lyricist.
Sam Lao is a 25 year-old rapper/singer in Dallas, Tx. Although an artist from birth - mainly drawing, painting and sculpting, she only recently began creating music. "I turned to music when my other creative outlets ceased to be satisfying anymore. I had always sang just for fun but rapping was something new for me and I really took to it."
Despite being a rookie in the game, Sam Lao has already begun to cause a stir in the city of Dallas. Her debut EP, West Pantego, has received rave reviews from both Dallas and national media. The Dallas Observer gave Sam 6 Dallas Observer Music Awards nominations between last year and this year, including "Best New Act", "Best Rap/Hip-Hop Artist" and "Best Female Vocalist". In addition, Lao has performed at countless shows and festivals over the last year including Index Fest, Homegrown Festival, 2 SXSW showcases, The Greenville St. Patty's Day Concert w/ Ludacris as well a sold-out concert at Granada Theater w/ Sarah Jaffe among others. Sam's visuals, which can be found on her Vevo page, are some of the most exciting music videos to come out of Dallas in some time. Her video for "Pilgrims" received a Dallas Observer Music Award nomination for "Best Video" in 2013.
Whether it was listening to her music online, seeing her amazing live performance or watching one of her captivating music videos, fans have been coming in masses to see what's next from Sam Lao. She is clearly showing that she has what it takes to hang with the boys in hip-hop. Lao is currently putting the finishing touches on her debut full-length album which is expected to release at the end of 2014.
