Reel Indie Film Fest (RiFF) and Indie Week presents - Hired Gun the Documentary

Hired Gun the Documentary

Out of the shadows, into the spotlight.

HIRED GUN is the high voltage feature documentary from new director Fran Strine. Shot with the RED Epic and finished at Skywalker Sound.

A collection of tightly woven stories from prolific musicians that aren’t household names, but chances are when you turn up the radio or go to a sold out concert, you’re hearing one of these guys rock the house. Their DNA is in the most popular songs we know and love. This is their time to step into the spotlight and shine.

HIRED GUN features some of the greatest living musicians in America today. Three players are featured, Liberty Devitto (Billy Joel), Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy Osbourne) and Jason Hook (Alice Cooper). Their stories explore the themes of loyalty, passion and dedication to the craft. You’ll also hear from Jason Newsted (Metallica), Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp), Ray Parker Jr. (Stevie Wonder), David Foster (Earth, Wind & Fire), Jay Graydon (Steely Dan), Steve Lukather (Michael Jackson), Nita Strauss (Alice Cooper), Eric Singer (KISS), John 5 (Marilyn Manson), Chris Johnson (Rihanna), Richard Patrick (Nine Inch Nails), Phil Buckman (Filter), Paul Bushnell (Faith Hill), Derek St. Holmes (Ted Nugent), Brad Gillis (Ozzy Osbourne), Phil X (Bon Jovi), Michael Herring (Prince), Dave Koz (Barry Manilow), Dave Ellefson (Megadeth), and more.

A hired gun is an elite session and touring player that gets hired to deliver the music for A-list artists. To be a hired gun requires more focus and commitment than somebody who is permanently in a band, because how he or she plays today decides the fate of tomorrow. There is no such thing as unprepared. No drama, no being late, no hang-ups allowed. It’s not even enough to be the best player, there has to be the right chemistry within the rest of the band. Some hired guns are undervalued and uncredited, others are in high demand, happy to stay in relative obscurity and supporting the star. Others still take the risk of becoming leaders in their own band.
