Brooklyn-based musician Joseph Sant is described by the Huffington Post as "an intergalactic love child of Jeff Buckley and Beach House". His first EP, Sea White Salt, arrives January 14, 2016, and critics have called this debut effort "dreamlike", "inspired", "hypnotic", an "haunting homage to a fragile coast" that "roils with raw emotion" and "reveals its treasures at once, leaving you awestruck".
Nor'easter, the single from the EP, is streaming now, and pulses with "tense, anxious beauty -- as though just under the surface, something dangerous is about to happen". Nor'easter has garnered Sant comparisons to "the 80s warmth of Wild Nothing", "the road trip nostalgia of The War On Drugs", "Real Estate crossed with Beach Fossils", Feist, and Bryan Ferry, among others.
His live band includes Brooklyn stalwarts Gabriel Galvin (guitar) and Stirling Krusing (lap steel), long-time collaborator Tyler Graham (drums), and bassist Georgia Tan.
If you're not careful, Brooklyn trio Hotline might just hypnotize you into dreamy sonic rapture. A collaboration among Mike Zorrilla and Mike Kirby (of labelmates Tiger Dare) with drummer Ian Vidaurre, the band offers up a sound that vibes hard like the Lemonheads by way of American Football's intricacy — that can hush low like Ida but explode into '80s ecstatic release for your inner Kate Bush. Serene melodies cycle in and out, lacing the hazy mix with gently offered pleasures that wouldn't sound out of place in a Red House Painters track. The band's aptly named first single, "Don't Look Away," kicks off with mesmerizing, phased-out guitar arpeggios, and then builds an irresistible groove so warm and inviting you'll want to live inside. These are longtime veterans who know how to offer up delicately crafted songs that soothe and thrill at once.
Hotline's debut 7" will be released on Wonderland Archives early 2016.
Washed out, grunge band with a psychedelic/progressive twist from NYC.
