To challenge the perceived limitations and forge new boundaries is a goal aimed at by many yet reached by a select few. Guitarist Erik Rutan has crafted an impressive career by attaining that goal consistently for well over a decade with his legendary work in Ripping Corpse and Morbid Angel. 1999 brings forth the Wicked World debut of Rutan's newest assemblage of death metal unstoppability, HATE ETERNAL.
HATE ETERNAL was borne from Rutan's on-going quest to push the envelope of uncompromising hate. Having spent the majority of his career solely as a guitarist, he felt the strong desire to step up to the mic with his brutal vocals and mobilize an outfit that would truly represent his own ideas. The goal was to create a massive force of devastating death metal with a lineup that was untouchable. Filling the drum slot would prove challenging as the material seemed to demand an eight-armed demon. After trying out a few mere mortals, Tim Yeung entered the picture. Having studied the masters like Sandoval and Hoglan while adding his own unique qualities to his art, his utterly relentless attack proved to be a mandatory ingredient. Yeung is poised to take his place as one of the premier death metal drummers. The addition of Doug Cerrito (ex-Suffocation), one of the most respected guitarists in death metal, added yet another strong dimension to the band and the final addition of Jared Anderson's punishing bass attack and co-vocal sickness cemented the roster.
With undeniable aggression, premier musicianship and Erik and Jared's vicious lyrical firestorm, Conquering The Throne is the high-water mark for death metal in 1999. Musically, the album is on all-out precision assault, done so with all of the flair and expertise one would expect from such an impressive assembly. To accompany the assault, Rutan's lyrical stance derives influence from a variety of sources: ancient philosophies and scriptures, ongoing personal beliefs, ominous futuristic prophesies and other hateful visions. The combination is undeniable. Rutan and company have succeeded in creating an album of sheer death metal mastery, a supreme force thrust upon the world to be reckoned with forevermore. Be prepared, for the devastation is about to begin!
Misery Index was born in the spring of 2001, by vocalist/bassist Jason Netherton along with vocalist/guitarist Mike Harrison as a studio project, with drums performed by ex-Dying Fetus drummer Kevin Talley. "Overthrow," their debut CD was unleashed in September of 2001 on the band's own Anarchos Records, where it quickly drew praise and interest from underground circles with its five song blast-thrash attack that met all expectations, and then some. The music of Misery Index combines the most intense elements of metal with a distinct grind approach, added with a touch of hardcore and extreme punk attitude and passion, thus pushing the limits of metal with an insane mix of regressive thrashing rhythms, corrupting breakdowns and energetic ferocity. Misery Index sets no limits in their goal of making metal and grind flow together in boundless punishing assaults designed to modernize the classic death and grind metal of the early 90's, drawing influence from Brutal Truth, Disrupt, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Terrorizer, His Hero is Gone, Bolt Thrower, Assuck and Entombed.
Since the release of their debut full-length album, The Aura, in June 2011, Montreal progressive death metallers Beyond Creation have become known for taking the innovative and exciting metal sound of their Quebec homeland and launching it into uncharted territory. Guitarists Simon Girard and Kevin Charté blend top-notch technical death metal playing, at times reminiscent of Gorod and The Faceless, with uid and progressive slides and taps, inspired by everything from
Guthrie Govan to Animals As Leaders. They are joined by arguably one of the most forward-thinking players in metal, Dominic 'Forest' Lapointe, on six-string fretless bass, known for his work with Augury, Quo Vadis, Teramobil, Atheretic and others. Backed by the relentless assault of hyperactive drummer Philippe Boucher (Other bands: Incandescence, First Fragment, Chthe'ilist, Décombres) and led by Girard's blend of guttural growls and inhaled/pitched screams, Beyond Creation are blazing their own trail through hard work, originality and a fresh perspective on the metal genre.

Formed in 2009 in Reading, Pennsylvania, RIVERS OF NIHIL – which can be can be defined as the continuation of a neutral flow of retaining emptiness; humble, egoless…— took shape after Jake Dieffenbach (vocals), Ron Nelson (drums), and Jon Kunz (guitars) got together to create a band to push the boundaries of death metal. Formed out of the ashes of their previous band, Jake, Ron, and Jon played their first show as a three piece, but soon after the band recruited Adam Biggs (bass/vocals) and Brody Uttley (guitars) who had both recently exited their own old band. RIVERS OF NIHIL went on to self-release two EPs—2010′s Hierarchy and 2011′s Temporality Unbound. The band played several shows and toured throughout the East Coast and Midwest, including stops at Midwest Fuckfest with Dying Fetus, Misery Index and Arsis, and Akron Deathfest with Complete Failure. RIVERS OF NIHIL continued to tour in support of their EPs, sharing the stage with Suffocation, The Faceless, Despised Icon, Revocation, Beneath the Massacre, Dysrhythmia, Decapitated, Six Feet Under, and Decrepit Birth, logging over 50 dates in the US alone.
Enter the summer of 2012; RIVERS OF NIHIL and Metal Blade Records began talks, and in September the band was officially signed to the label. In March of 2013 RIVERS OF NIHIL entered the studio with death metal master Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, ex-Morbid Angel) at MANA RECORDING STUDIOS (Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore, Exhumed, Mountain Goats) in St. Petersburg, Florida to begin the recording of their first full-length studio set for release before the end of 2013. Once RIVERS OF NIHIL finish recording they will hit the road to play in front of as many metalheads as possible during the summer and fall to support their upcoming Metal Blade Records debut.
