Soup and Bread

Soup & Bread is a free weekly soup dinner to benefit hunger relief efforts across Chicago - to sign up to serve soup email soupnbread10@gmail.com
Each week we round up a handful of Hideout staff and regulars, plus local musicians, writers, artists, and professional cooks to donate pots of homemade soup. We heat them up in crock pots and serve them up, along with fresh bread and the occasional muffins, pie, or cookies. All are welcome, and we serve till the soup runs out or the late-night jazz guys kick us out. It's a low-key way to get folks out of the house and socializing in the dead of darkest winter -- because at times these past few years it's seemed the entire city could use a nice hot bowl of soup. There's no cover and kids are welcome, but we accept donations (pay-what-you-can), all of which go to support neighborhood food pantries and soup kitchens.
We’ve got soups this week from:
Swim Cafe
Sunday Dinner Chicago's Christine Citkowski
Chicago Reader food critic Mike Sula
Farmer Vera Videnovich
Richard Black
Lauren Falasz
Restaurant Intelligence Agency's Ellen Malloy and food photographer Grant Kessler
Mare Swallow, organizer of the Chicago Writer's Conference
Also this week: Pie from Hoosier Mama, Cheap Tart Bakery, and many more. DJs Matt Lux and Jim Becker. All proceeds go to the Warming Center in Logan Square.
