To call GoldLink an aspiring rapper would not do him justice. The DMV-bred emcee accrued over one million plays on his Soundcloud and captured the attention of an entire industry with the first six songs he ever released.

GoldLink's sound doesn't throw it all the way back to the boom-bap, New York style, nor is it entirely a product of digital production. Instead, the music mixes the buttery grooves of 90's R&B with classic hip-hop breaks to give it an essence of nostalgia, and then turns on its head with bouncy, forward-thinking production style led by the likes of Ta-Ku and Kaytranda. Add that to GoldLink's ability to fill every pocket of the dynamic instrumentals he tackles with a roller-coaster delivery, and suddenly your head is bobbing to the self-proclaimed "future-bounce" genre.

The racing mind of a 20-year old is usually not a romantically stable place, so you will often hear GoldLink battling the worries and woes of his love life. However, with the mental and social acuity of someone far beyond his years, it is not out of the ordinary to find GoldLink tackling a larger social injustice. Whether it be dealing cocaine, gun-toting friends, an absent father, or the general hardship of growing up in the ghetto, there is substance behind the sound.

GoldLink has only one full project, (The God Complex), under his belt and has still been able to receive the support of outlets like FADER, Complex, Noisey, and Shade 45. The recognition spread further than the web though, as GoldLink played several showcases at SXSW including one alongside the future-bounce conglomerates at Soulection.

The short career of GoldLink thus far has shown him relative success, and with the release of The God Complex on April 1st, we are all excited to watch, experience, and dance to his progression.

Los Rakas is comprised of cousins Raka Rich & Raka Dun, pioneering Panamanians by way of the Bay Area on the frontier of a new Latin urban sound. Known for their fresh mix of hip-hop, plena, reggae and dancehall music with both Spanish and English lyricism, Los Rakas represent the cutting edge of Pan-American flows. Taking their name from the Panamanian word "Rakataka" – a negative slur used to describe someone from the ghetto – Los Rakas have set out to both inspire fellow "Rakas" by empowering them to become successful despite their circumstances, turning the current Latin hip-hop world on its head. They are part of a growing movement of DIY artists opening new spaces for true urban music to flourish worldwide in the Internet Era.

Los Rakas had a busy year, having appeared on "Sway In The Morning," as well as performing in huge festivals like "Rock The Bells" and "Central Park SummerStage," have their song "Hot" placed in the biggest video game in the world - FIFA 14 (via Latinol), and collaborated with Major Lazer (Desorden) & Scoop Deville (Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg). The group were the first independent band to have their logo on a major brand sneaker - the Raka Puma - as part of Modelo Especial and Complex Magazine's "Blank Canvas Project" released last year in stores. Currently 2014 Converse Cons ambassadors, Raka Rich & Raka Dun are featured prominently as part of the brands' national ad campaign shot by famed photographer Ari Marcopoulos.

Los Rakas have been covered widely in the press across their 7 year career, with mentions in the NY Times, NPR's All Things Considered, Complex Magazine, The FADER, Washington Post, AOL & much more. They've shared the stage with Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, Manu Chao and have toured nationally with SOJA, Collie Buddz, and The Grouch as well as internationally at festivals like Mexico City's "Festival Corona Capital," Colombia and Chile.

Their debut album "El Negrito Dun Dun & Ricardo" - released on Universal Musica after building independently and internationally - is out now!

"As their music switched among hip-hop, reggaetón and dancehall beats, their fast rhymes proclaimed solidarity across the hemisphere." - NYTimes

"This Oakland, Calif., duo — rapping cousins Raka Rich and Raka Dun — prove that some of the most exciting dance music on the planet is still coursing through the Afro-Latin diaspora." - Washington Post

"The bilingual hip-hop crew has caught the eye of Snoop Dogg and Major Lazer. Their CONS list has videos that caught THEIR eyes, like Murs, ASAP Rocky, and Schoolboy Q." - Vevo

"The Panamanian cousins, Raka Rich and Raka Dun, are the embodiment of the new millennial Latino MC—bilingual, genre-bending and, of course, lyrics for days." - Latina Magazine

"Los Rakas is one of the most talented & multi-faceted globalized voices in hip hop & R&B." - Austinist

"Truth is, there's only Los Rakas really doing this. The bilingual rap and reggae duo out of Oakland (via Panama) are putting all the pieces together: rapping in both Spanish and English over rhythms (and riddims) from a faraway isthmus and from around the block. They draw lines between the immigrant experience and the urban experience; between the black and the brown experience. They rhyme about partying and looking fresh and smoking fine Cali weed, but also about what's really going on, about struggle, about identity." - MTV Iggy

BJ The Chicago Kid

Born, raised, and nurtured on the South Side of Chicago in the early 80's, B.J's childhood was a fusion of elements from both the streets and the church. With parents who served as choir directors, and brother/singer Aaron Sledge alongside of him, his passion and gift for creating beautiful music seemed inevitable.

"... thank you for lettin' me express my freshness" - BJ

Balancing out his drummer's skill with a soul-saturated voice and impeccable song writing ability, Bj moved to Los Angeles to further enhance his craft. As fate would have it, his new school-old soul musicianship captured the ears of noteworthy artists such as the Grammy award winning group, Mary Mary who were compelled to give Bj his first stint as a background vocalist. The demand for his unique sound & style led to other industry staples such as Stevie Wonder, Musiq SoulChild, Dave Hollister, Mario, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige , Usher, Kanye West and a host of others.

Having God as his driving force and a hustler-like-character,Bj's successes have positioned him for stardom. Word for word, note for note, fans and new listeners can't help but to gravitate towards Bj's intangibly beautiful sound.

New York City by way of Chicago based producer and dj, Brenmar, represents a strange musical paradox. Somehow defying the odds, he marries the artificial gloss of commercial R'n'B and Hip Hop with the urban grittiness of underground dance music (Chicago ghetto house, UK bass, Jersey club). His remixes/edits/and productions have taken him to both coasts of the U.S., Canada, Japan, Mexico, Australia and the EU – frenzying crowds with his up-tempo, neon-drenched tunes. Always difficult to define, the elements that make up Brenmar's music contain an extravagant medley of influences. Take a pinch of Mannie Fresh snares, a handful of DJ Rashad toms, a dose of basslines from the UK, a generous portion of Hot 97 vocalists, poach it all in a synthesizer broth, and garnish with some Timbaland sheen. You're getting close.

Marc E Bassy

Marc E. Bassy- A San Francisco native who's written songs for the likes Chris Brown, Sean Kingston and Mia Pia, Marc is killing stages with his own work. His debut project, Only the Poets (Vol. 1), a ten-track collection of material penned and performed by Bassy which features guests IAMSU!, Skizzy Mars and NHT Chippas. Casper & B, Count Bassy and Jahaan Sweet handle production.

Trails & Ways

Trails and Ways make dream pop from a bedroom studio in Oakland, CA. While living in Brazil, songwriter/guitarist/keyboardist KBB got deep into samba and bossanova, and came back with a vision—to bring together the hypnotic flow of bossanova and the ocean texture of noise pop. Ian Quirk on the drums and production. Emma Oppen on bass, also sings and writes. Hannah van Loon plays electric guitar, violin, and synths.

Justin "J-Boogie" Boland is a world-renowned DJ/producer from San Francisco. He is signed to Om Records and has blown up the festival circut at Coachella, Outside Lands and Burning Man.

BOSCO is a force of nature. This Atlanta-bred singer/songwriter pulls from the rawest, headiest elements of R&B, dance and beyond, wrapping it all up with a relentlessly physical live show and and iconic personal style. It's an electrifying approach that has made her a muse for music and fashion tastemakers alike. Now, following a streak of underground favorites (including "Slippin" from the Solange-curated Saint Heron compilation and the house-y Treasure Fingers collaboration "Names"), BOSCO makes her proper Fool's Gold debut with the brand-new BOY EP.

The sounds of Africa have taken multi-instrumentalist Chico Mann—aka Marcos García—all over the world. So itʼs fitting that after spending years learning to speak Afrobeat, albeit with a Cuban accent, Chico Mann has employed several dialects to make a larger musical statement, creating a hybrid of Afro-Cuban rhythms, Afrobeat and classic freestyle that has emerged to be one of the new, vibrant musical styles of today.

Born in New York City to Cuban parents—his mother a pianist and disc jockey, his father a record label head and producer of merengue records—a young Chico started early, diving headlong into the spheres of guitar, piano, and break dancing; the works of Willie Colón, Fela Kuti, Lisa Lisa, and Afrika Bambaataa led the way. His father told him to steer clear of the business, but did he really have a choice?

Fast forward to the early 2000s. When he wasnʼt burning up stages worldwide with the mighty Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, Chico was home cooking up a more personal sound, featuring himself on all the instruments (guitar, bass, keyboards, programming) and vocals (in Spanish!). A debut album Manifest Tone, Vol. 1 emerged in 2007 and now 2010, he is ready to drop another groundbreaking statement - Analog Drift, his first for Wax Poetics Records. Here Chico Mann introduces the rhythms of Afrobeat to the music of Cuba, the Latin freestyle flavors of 1980s New York and Miami, and the synth-heavy electro beats of dance floors across the globe.

This is music is good for your mind and behind. And itʼs always real. The total package. Chico says it best himself: "If you want it you can have it / If you want it, you can take it, you can grab it."

So go out and get what you want, and let Chico Mann provide the soundtrack.

The Sam Chase

The Sam Chase has a voice like a Nun on the lam with a mouthful cigarettes and curse words in a lonely bar, drunkenly dancing next to a broken jukebox. His songs are scribbled, not written, on lipstick and sweat stained motel bedsheets because he likes the way the ink bleeds. His guitar runs on diesel and leaks like the morning after too much Whiskey. His is a show you'll probably want to tattoo on your body so everyone will know that you knew him before he was cool.

Afrolicious's sound combines soulful lyrics, funky bass lines, a sprinkle of jazz horns, while retaining the soul and feel of classic funk, disco, Latin, and Afrobeat melodies. These are the type of songs you can blast in your car for some feel-good crusin' or dance to at the club. The name "Afrolicious" was even inspired by a 2006 weekly dance party at Elbo Room San Francisco; brothers Joe and Oz McGuire—also known as DJs Pleasuremaker and Señor Oz—first collaborated with producers, DJ's and musicians to craft their group's sound.

The musicians that make up Afrolicious also come from as diverse a background as the band's music. Freshislife, the lead singer on several tracks of California Dreaming, was originally a star Calypso dancer in Trinidad and Tobago before relocating to San Francisco. Vocalist and percussionist Baba Duru was in the original Headhunters and was featured on the classic B-Boy anthem "God Made Me Funky".

This collective released their new album California Dreaming this past March, after releasing two previous EPs with Thievery Corporation's label ESL Music. The weekly Afrolicious parties are still thriving in SF to date. This last year has seen the Afrolicious live band play at such legendary venues as Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado and upcoming gigs include the Greek Theater in Berkeley.

The Starship Connection

Synthesizer Funk / Future Bass Quartet. Crew :: B. Bravo, Teeko, D-Nasty, Bob-O.

For those used to watching rappers posture onstage by themselves, or backed by a DJ, experiencing a group like Bayonics is a real eye-opener. As Jairo later explains, hip-hop is "definitely the easiest way" to reach young people these days. However, "when you see a live band playing hip-hop, it kinda blows your wig back."

Some call it a movement. Others say it's a revival. But there's no denying that the blending of hip-hop with live instrumentation and a variety of other genres -- including funk, jazz, salsa, reggaeton and rock -- is one of the freshest, most happening things going in the Bay Area's multicultural music scene.

The idea of a band fusing hip-hop with live instrumentation is far from an anomaly in the Bay Area -- it's part of local tradition. During the mid-'90s heyday of the acid-jazz era, groups like Alphabet Soup, the Mo'fessionals, the Broun Fellinis, Mingus Amungus and Jungle Biskit enthralled hipster crowds at such San Francisco venues as the Up & Down Club and the Elbo Room. For these artists, soul, jazz and hip-hop were all interchangeable elements of the musical mix. But though acid jazz eventually fell out of fashion, the music never stopped -- it's just taken on new forms.

Bayonics' multifaceted sound could be seen as the hip-hop generation's answer to the Latin fusion of the '70s -- think Malo and Santana, minus the guitar pyrotechnics and with a more street-wise style. Getting that sound has been an evolutionary process. The band started six years ago as a traditional salsa group, Mala Fama, that emerged out of the Loco Bloco drum ensemble.

Julia Lewis

Julia Lewis is a San Francisco-based music producer and artist named Benjamin Falik. Experiencing the world through his ears, Benjamin grew up studying Jazz, and learned to express himself playing piano, bass, guitar, and saxophone. In addition to jazz, he fell in love with funk, gospel, RnB, hip hop, and some forms of dance music. Having a passion for music, but not one particular instrument, he channeled his desires by making arrangements and writing full songs. He was enthralled with the sonic possibilities of electronic music, and since has become a music producer and artist. Like many young producers, he started working with Fruity Loops, transitioned to Reason and Pro-tools, and finally landed on Ableton with Max4Live. Using an array of analog and digital synthesizers, as well as drum machines, worldly samples, and live-recorded instruments, he makes emotive, danceable music that continues to evolve with time.

Benjamin released his debut "Asymmetry" EP as Julia Lewis in 2013, for which he drew inspiration from the likes of SBTRKT, Dam Funk, and James Blake, amongst others.

Today, Julia Lewis is working on his second EP (early spring 2014), as well as doing production and songwriting work for various groups and artists. Julia Lewis is a part of the trio Saint Tiimbre, along with Amp Live (of well-known Hip Hop duo Zion I), and singer/dancer Natasha Adorlee Johnson.

Religious Girls

Religious Girls are a diverse group of multi-instrumentalists, with each member hailing from separate musical backgrounds that ranges from metal to noise to math rock and pop. Using their talents, Religious Girls focus thier energy into creating beautiful harmonies and layering them over intricate percussive ryhthms. Preferring to play on the floor near listeners rather than a distant stage, they feel that no matter how high of quality a recording may be the live set is what moves people, and therefore focus on creating intimacy with the crowd. Collectively, the band has tried to push aside the standards of popular song writing with non-repeating structures, an intricate mathmatical style, and a carefully laid out set in which all songs are interweaved into one. Religious Girls offers an intense and dramatic set, leaving viewers in awe by the end of the performance.

Oakland quartet that could be the Bay's own Animal Collective. "As they began their set, my whole perception of noise and music was completely blown out of the water. Religious Girls took the rhythmic pounding of HEALTH and the tropical loveliness of High Places and made it their own, a completely new sound that was as beautiful as it was harsh and brutal. ... The manipulated vocals through the microphones and the call and response keyboard and drum melodies amazed me and captivated me in the best way. They were absolutely fucking terrific." --KEXP Blog

Straight out of the Bay Area, Bang Data comes armed with slick guitar, gritty synth & bass and banging electro-acoustic drums. Their debut full length album "La Sopa" (The Soup), dropping March 13 2012 on Itunes, is loaded with heavy grooves, Samba-Ska-Cumbia and hints of Afro-Electro-Bossanova. Much like its name, La Sopa is a melting pot of rhythms and infectious beats that reflect the band's backgrounds and the undeniable influence of northern California Hip Hop, Rock and Latin music. "Our sound is like a soup and so are we...shit, if you think about it, so is everybody else in the world...In this day of age, with internet and mobile devices, etc, all these different cultures are meshing together becoming a "sopa". People are constantly influencing and inspiring each other whether its art, music, politics. the world is one big ass
soup if you ask us!"

Bang Data is formed by Bay Area's MC Deuce Eclipse on lead vocals, who's well known by hip-hop fans as an accompanying voice to the legendary Zion I andmusician/producer Juan Manuel Caipo who helped propel the latin alternative music scene in the Bay Area early on in his career. Bang Data was born a side project that quickly shifted into something more while working together with Amplive of Zion I who at the time was producing Deuce's solo album. Since partnering in 2008, Deuce Eclipse and Caipo, of Nicaraguan and Peruvian heritages respectively, have created music that strikes a chord between what they grew up listening to with their parents and the contemporary influences of life in California. Mixing Rock, Reggae,
Hip-Hop & Latin beats and infusing them with a soulful bilingual (English/Spanish) delivery by Deuce Eclipse, Bang Data has created a sound that is unmistakably theirs. The group has performed with acts such as Calle 13, Ozomatli, Zion I, Natalia Lafourcade, Enanitos Verdes, Panteon Rococo & Chico Trujillo to name a few.

Their debut CD EP "Maldito Carnaval", featuring seven tracks, was released in the fall of 2009 to rave reviews. Their song "Drivin' Steady" has been featured as the iTunes Latino Song of the Week. The EP has special guest performances by Karl Perrazzo, from Santana, Steve Bradley from No Doubt and Amplive from Zion-I.

On March 13, Bang Data will make its mark with La Sopa. La Sopa was mixed and produced by Caipo and includes 5 songs from its debut EP, including the self-titled single "Bang Data", which was featured on A&E's Emmy® Award winning television drama Breaking Bad plus 9 additional songs including an Afro/Latin Hip Hop version of "Toro Mata", featuring Peruvian living legend Eva Ayllón. The album will also feature live favorites "ICU" and "Veneno", Afrobeat-flavored "Sucio Amor" and electro gritty cumbia tracks "Que Se Mueva" and "Bomberos". La Sopa brings some flavor for everybody. Get it while it's hot!

Trill Team 6

Rap Game Seal Team Six, Trill Team Six, after much political discourse and too many shots, came to the conclusion that "killin the game" was much too easy. Contemporary Oakland futurists believe, to gain respect from fringe societies, such as ones that live in turmoil and blight, one needs to express the idealism of the past and continue with the forward thought process of a progressive future. Trill Team Six does this through up and coming rappers, producers, and cutting edge dj's at their disposal. Last but not least they do this by being prolific with their internet presence. Oh yeah, they used to have a jeep.

To put it simply, YMTK pushes the envelope of musicality in hip-hop. He has always been more out-of-the-box than his roots suggest, and his music reflects that he has a style uniquely his own. YMTK's professional career began as a songwriter, but he has since demonstrated that his solo work fills a niche that hasn't been tapped by other artists of this generation. His live performances alone consistently captivate fans and industry insiders alike. Indisputable talent and continued rapport with rising stars have filled YMTK's resume with collaborations with some of the most popular artists coming out of CA. He has worked with the Cataracs (#1 hit "Fly Like a G6"), IAMSU! of the HBK movement, Clyde Carson, The Pack, and Nic Nac, producer of YMTK's first album and nationwide hit "143," performed by Bobby Brackins and Ray J.

The youngest of three brothers and the son of two musicians, Graham Patzner didn't have much choice. Starting on piano at age five and then moving on to violin, trumpet and guitar, the Whiskerman singer and front-man has cultivated a unique sound that is hard to pinpoint. His voice ranges from smoky to soaring, while his songs span a wide array of moods and genres, yet always remain soulful. Behind him is a tight band that includes Will Lawrence on bass, Nick Cobbett on drums, and Charles Lloyd sharing guitar duties. Collectively they form Whiskerman, and they are quickly becoming a force in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Duckwrth, known for his comparison to seminal acts like the Pharcyde, Tribe Called Quest and Andre 3000, has been featured in blogs like Noisey, Afropunk, P&P, Okayplayer and more. Duckwrth's most recent tape, TaxFree V1, was just a glimpse into his inevitable evolution into becoming more than just a rapper but a solid performing artist in every sense of the word.
