Obits

Featuring Rick Froberg from Drive Like Jehu / Hot Snakes and members of Edsel. A little like an older wiser Hot Snakes maybe, where the Hot Snakes were all pent up aggression, and wild thrashing garage stomp, the Obits traffic in something much more measured, but no less rocking. Still garage-y and super stomping, but tighter, more varied. Froberg sings as much as he howls and wails, the guitars here don't just crash and clang, they shimmer and twang, there's definitely a surf element, the drums crisp and tight, the guitars spidery and crystalline more than crunchy and heavy. Sub Pop Records.
Fists

Fists are an English indie rock band based in Nottingham, UK. Fists describe their music as "an ever-shifting amalgam of indie rock, lo-fi, punk, rockabilly and 1950s pop experimentalism" and cite The Breeders, Jonathan Richman, The Monks, Daniel Johnston, The Velvet Underground, The Ramones, Clinic and Joe Meek as influences".
The Homophones

A lo-fi Smiths? A hi-fi Beat Happening? There's something familiar, comfortable and charming about the way Jason Ferraro's luxurious baritone rests on those lightly marching snares and strumming acoustics. And when the backing vocals chime in, and the synths emerge from the shadows, The Homophones can lead you somewhere really artsy.
