Born in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx, Inspectah Deck moved to East New York before settling down in Staten Island at age 12. It was in Staten Island where he first hooked up with his Wu-Tang conglomerate attending public school with Raekwon, U-God, Method Man, and Cappadonna. A well rounded honor role student and athlete, using his inbred common sense to play defense in football and a power forward in basketball, it was only natural that he used his verbal abilities to start rhyming. He took hip hop seriously, making a chart of all of the underground rap shows (Mr. Magic, Awesome Two) and studying different emcee styles. Pensive and attentive, he soon met RZA, GZA, and Ol'Dirty Bastard when their crew took the ferry to Staten Island, bringing their Brooklyn style with them. This fusion magnified Decks Shaolin style. Says Deck, "We were separated from the other boroughs-we had our own little language."
Production from RZA, Allah Mathematics, Tru Master, and the Rebel INS himself perfectly complement the complex rhyme style of this verbal assaulter. Inspectah Deck is one of those rare artist that have the ability to write, flow and produced tracks that are far beyond the norm. To his credit, he has produced tracks on the Tales From The Hood soundtrack, the RZA's Swarm compilation and Method Man's Tical 2000: Judgement Day Album.
Inspectah Deck first emerged in the public eye in 1992, when Wu-Tang Clan released their debut album Enter the 36 Chambers. Since then, two multi-platinum Wu-Tang Clan albums have infiltrated the market, and finally the highly anticipated Inspectah Deck solo LP, is about to shatter our eardrums. What can you look forward to? An uncontrolled substance. Not even the police can control this dense subject matter, where lyrics and contents are of utmost importance.
