The Edwardian Ball Los Angeles 2015 - My Gorey Valentine

Rosin Coven

Rosin Coven is the World’s Premiere Pagan Lounge Ensemble; nine musicians blend voices, cellos, contrabass, accordion, violin, guitar, trombone, trumpet, vibraphone, drums, and percussion to create their own style of theatrical cabaret. Edith Piaf does the cha-cha with Charles Mingus, Eric Satie tangos with Sun-Ra, and Kurt Weil broods over Doris Day. Rosin Coven presents an irreverent yet elegant balance between musicianship, poise, theatricality, and humor. They’re found where you least expect them…in nightclubs, theatres, parks, festivals, museums, deserts, parades, galas, and foreign lands.

“An umpteen-piece band full of pale-faced, velvet-clad cool cats playing everything from cello and contrabass to accordion, the group falls on a continuum between Rocky Horror camp and medieval danse macabre. The members of Rosin Coven, a Berkeley-based troupe with a vigorous following, look and sound like well-traveled carnies with formidable heaps of classical training; the roguish ensemble is even easy on the eyes.” – SF Weekly

Vau de Vire Society

Spawned from the depths of San Francisco’s thriving Dance and Circus sub-cultures, the Vau de Vire Society has ravaged and titillated live entertainment, causing jaws to drop in awe and garnering admiration around the world. This Avant-Cabaret community consists of classically-trained dancers, some of the nations most acclaimed acrobats, aerial artists, contortionists and circus side-show acts, an array of unique fire-performers, a handful of gifted thespians and a barrage of the most enticing go-go’s.

Attending a Vau de Vire Society event is akin to stepping into an interactive Circus where audience and performer become a single rhythmic force. Together we create lush art-filled environments providing all in attendance a safe-haven to indulge fantasies of running away with the circus… if even for the night.

The Gentlemen Callers of Los Angeles

Delachaux

Spiced rum, tarantula hawks, psychic petraglyphs, dialated discos, carbonated cabarets, preposterous pageantry, thriving boho bonanzas of bongos, beat hucksters, rave nymphs, burlesque stars, porn carneys, klown kitties, lazer berries, crack muppets, hipsters, slicksters, bleeps, blips, and Black Rock commandos, cheetah-flavored orgy dust and hot sonic saternalia, Weimar Berlin hallucinogens, glitchy mambo, torch-lit tweekeasy, sub-atomic go-go, electro-swing steamcrunk. Entrer dans le monde de Delachaux...

The Klown

The Klown represents the next step in red-nose (r)evolution for one Boenobo the Klown and his band of merry musical pranksters. And that amounts to a scalable act equal parts music and micro-circus, taking one of three forms depending on the nature of a given event, budget, etc., and sharing the same original glitch / electro / electronic rock musical stylings across all three.

The John Brothers Piano Company

In early 2010, John Morgan and John Thatcher Boomer were a few months out of college, that is, they were without any real job prospects. They spent their days burning through their record collection ranging from Rachmaninoff to Eric Dolphy, and Thelonious Monk, while also honing their own compositions. On St. Patrick's Day of that year, they had enough material for a street show and hauled their Wurlitzer spinet to the closest subway station. A few months later they had a cover story in the art section of the San Francisco Chronicle and were playing shows across California.

In 2011, Arlo Perlstein and Jimi Marks, longtime collaborators with the JBPC, joined full time as the trumpet player and drummer. Together, the four of them played an after-hours speakeasy from 2-6AM every Friday night for a year. Soon after, Greg Ashley picked up the much-needed bass for the JBPC and the quintet was formed.

The definitive quality of this quintet lies not in the genres they bend or blend, but in the fact that performance has always been their rehearsal space. From the first sidewalk street shows to the weekly
speakeasy, an audience has been present throughout the development of their sound. Thus, while the JBPC often explores and unfolds new musical possibilities within their compositions, the music never idles or devolves into the esoteric, for the constant audience demands their unrelenting energy and runs an electric current through everything they produce.
