Panache & Baby's Present Halloween at 338 Moffat (Unit L)
Purling Hiss, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Meatbodies, Tonstartssbandht
Brooklyn, NY, 11211
This event is all ages
Purling Hiss' Mike Polizze has put in much time in the fried Philly blooze overdrive of the group Birds of Maya, but in his own vehicle he's expanded his grotty guitar wailing into the further cosmos, still shredding speakers aplenty. With releases out on Drag City, Richie, Woodsist Records, and a previous LP on Permanent, Purling Hiss became a full-fledged touring unit in 2010, revealing themselves to not only be purveyors of Rallizes Denudes/Vermonster-style guitar jams, but to have a serious 90's grunge/pop ethic not too far removed from bits of Bleach-era Nirvana. Lots of ooh-oohs to coincide with the growls, severe hooks to get lodged in your cranium.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
Completely fried 7-piece garage punk band of theremin-wielding psychopaths half originating from the flat salt bush plains of Deniliquin and the other from the sea-stained Anglesea coastline, brought together through a share house in Melbourne and a mutual love of Pavement, Thee Oh Sees and Nuggets.
They released their debut EP "Willoughby's Beach" on a limited run of 10" vinyl in October 2011. The first single "Black Tooth" pricked the ears of Triple J's Dom Alessio, who dubbed the band : "a tour de force of reverberated rock'n'roll."
The band soon gained a devoted and at times visceral Melbourne following – selling out several residencies and their debut EP launch at the Tote Hotel. In the following weeks King Gizzard were nominated for Best New Talent at The Age's EG Awards alongside Kimbra, Lanie Lane, Royal Headache and Husky.
2012 began with Gizzard being officially "unearthed" by Triple J, winning a spot at the Melbourne Big Day Out. They also landed a tour with US musician Girl Talk performing sold out shows at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney and Palace Theatre in Melbourne. A huge 2012/13 summer ensued with appearances at Falls Music and Arts Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival, Cherry Rock and a national tour with Jeff The Brotherhood.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Meatbodies are heavy, groovy, psychedelic and headbanging.
"Every person involved in this deserves to be high-fived until their hands chafe and bleed." – NOISEY –
"Chad & The Meatbodies' B-side "Mountain" has the heaviness of a Black Sabbath song, the fuzziness of a FUZZ track, and the unexpectedly polished vocals of a 2011 or later album from Thee Oh Sees. Those are some big shoes to fill." – THE BAY BRIDGED"
"Those paying attention might recognize Chad Ubovich from his stints as sideman in not only Mikal Cronin's live band, but also Ty's own heavy rock trio Fuzz – Chad's a helluva player and his shreddability is on ultimate display here! " – Permanent Records Chicago
