A tale of serendipity and hard work, Coastgaard was born from the frustration that Matt Miller (Lead Vocals, Guitar) and Brian Dalessandro (Drums and Vocals) had with their former band, Sons of Sons. Matt was finding it increasingly difficult to stand behind the dark and moody melodies he was creating. Thus, over halfway through recording their first release, Sons of Sons disbanded with thousands lost and years spent, but Matt and Brian stuck together, unwavering. After months of composing new songs under no name, they were joined by Sean Glassman (Guitar, Keys, Vocals) and Paolo Codega (Bass, Vocals) whose jangly guitar styling and steady driving bass instantly clicked with the rhythms and melodies they were conceiving.
Long before the band ever met, they already shared a connection in the artists they admired and respected. Growing up listening to The Beach Boys, Bowie, The Ventures and Cream provided the foundation to their love of music while early 90's alternative rock like, Pavement, The Pixies, and Neutral Milk Hotel are their more contemporary influences.
Inspired by the memories of times gone by, Coastgaard injects a warm wave of nostalgia into the hearts of their fans. The tight, swelling guitars sit on a smooth layer of bass and percussion leading their listeners down the musical coast they create. It's not just the beach they sing about, it's that day on the beach they sing about. Coastgaard's uncanny ability to get a crowd up and dancing while simultaneously experiencing an intimate, personal moment is addictive. And Coastgaard is one habit you won't want to break.
The Midnight Hollow
New York City based The Midnight Hollow is led by singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist Spencer Draeger, with Andrew Segreti on drums, Matt Liebowitz on bass for live shows and Vahak "V" Janbazian on percussion. Forming from Draeger's recordings in the brutal heat of summer 2012, they've gained a lot of attention early on from their dramatic shows and unpredictable stage presence. Earning the front of Stereogum after their first few shows of last 2012's CMJ, a statement could not be more literal and honest as the article's title-"Band To Watch." A year later the band added Janbazian on percussion, complimenting the band's established sound of improvisation and momentum which ultimately pushed TMH into 2013 CMJ's top ten list. Draeger who writes all the songs and plays everything on the recordings except Segreti's drums, incorporates groove heavy styles with funky guitars, lush synthesizers and bass dictating style coining their very own sound, "Concrete Jungle Rock." The whole project is the balance of Draeger's vocal driven songwriting to Segreti's groove and style of playing.
Draeger and Segreti recently finished an LPs worth of material to be released in 2014, Draeger separately recorded a half electronic, half acoustic version of an unreleased song called "Downstairs" for French based Zappruder Records. The band have also shot a surreal ode to 60s psychedelic cult classics with director Philippe Grenade for "Her Morning Glow," set to release in 2014.
EVVY is the newest indie pop artist from New York, her honeyed vocals surrounded by a glimmering production will pull you into her technicolor world of young love and heartbreak.
CRUISR began in 2012 as the solo project of Andy States and quickly morphed into what it is today; an indie-pop band whose summery, feel-good hooks are infectious and stadium ready.
States wrote and recorded the band's first EP in his Philadelphia bedroom, fixated on the idea of what it means to craft a pop song. "I have an obsession with writing pop music and the idea that songs can transcend people.," States says. "I saw that producer Jeremy Park started writing blog articles about how he recorded Youth Lagoon, so I wrote to him and sent him my songs asking for advice and knowledge. He wrote back and loved my stuff and helped me produce the first EP."
The six-song self-titled EP was released in the summer of 2012 and quickly garnered attention online and in the press. With all the newfound awareness Andy promptly realized he needed a band to bring his songs to the stage. "Jon was always my sounding board. I'd show him songs in the making and get his advice. It only made sense that he'd become part of CRUISR," Andy notes. With the addition of Kyle and Bruno the quartet set out performing whenever possible. And of course, they continued to write.
"The writing process definitely changed once we became a full band. I'll work on my computer and bring the idea to Jon. By that time it's structured and has a backbone, guitars are figured out etc. Jon elaborates on the idea with drums and it goes from there." In late 2013 CRUISR released a new track online, "Kidnap Me," which attracted even more positive attention than the EP. Representative of CRUISR as a cohesive unit, "Kidnap Me" was the first track written as a band and showcases what CRUISR does best; sunny, warm, indie-pop. "It's funny because we're from Philadelphia and we write songs that sound like summer, which is a fleeting season here. I guess it's just because Philly is where we feel happiest, and when we're happy we write happy music."
Fast-forward to present day when CRUISR is gearing up to release their second EP, All Over, which features definitive recordings of "Kidnap Me" and "Don't Go Alone" as well as the brand new title track "All Over"; all of which were produced and mixed by Andrew Maury (RAC, Panama Wedding, Ra Ra Riot). All Over demonstrates how fantastically Andy's mind is able to translate pop hooks. "How does pop music make everyone like it so much?" States laughs, "Little kids hear it on the radio and just go crazy, singing stupid songs. There's something that's so smart about it, and a lot of things that people don't notice are the key ingredients to writing a pop song. I'm just really into trying to decipher what those things are and trying to make pop music in our own way."
All Over will be released on September 23 via Vagrant Records.
CRUISR is Andy States (vocals / guitar), Jonathan Van Dine (drums), Kyle Cook (bass), Bruno Catrambone (guitar)
Pam and Jacob met as next-door neighbors in Boston, MA. After months of avoiding eye contact and hearing each other's every waking move, Jacob invited Pam over for cheesecake. What, at first, seemed an odd pairing, quickly developed into a partnership that few find in their lifetime. Pam and Jacob have spent no more than a week apart since first playing together. There is no denying their chemistry on stage- Pam's roaring vocals and playful lyrics blend effortlessly with Jacob's detailed and meticulous drumbeats; leading your ears and your mind on a therapeutic journey.
XNY recently released their debut album, Orange, produced by Brian Viglione of The Dresden Dolls. XNY was Band of The Week in Vogue and Top Ten Artists to Watch in 2014 on FuseTV. Their single, JAW, premiered on American Songwriters, PureVolume and MTV.
Now, roommates and best friends in Brooklyn, Pam and Jacob are preparing a new album for the new year!
The Ugly Club
Fearlessly honest and unwaveringly persistent,THE UGLY CLUB has been operating for nearly 4 years with such a force that it has become impossible to ignore them (and you would be foolish to do so). With the July 2012 release of their debut album, "YOU BELONG TO THE MINUTES", The Ugly Club is vocally ambitious and teeming with intelligent arrangements not unlike the most progressive artists of our time. Reaching psychedelic highs comparable to My Morning Jacket and Radiohead, the delicate inclusion of jazz, indie-rock, and Prince-eqsue neo-funk sends listeners into an unanticipated daydream.
DREAMERS(members of Motive) is a unique brand of grunge that is nostalgic for a space somewhere between art-school eccentric and the late 1970s punk scene.
Prepare to embark on a journey with DREAMERS, with their unique brand of grunge that is nostalgic for a space somewhere between art-school eccentric and the late 1970s punk scene. Drawing inspiration from the likes of John Lennon and David Lynch, DREAMERS are ready to send their kaleidoscopic sound out into the universe. Their colorfully passionate music tugs at heartstrings and will have you dancing around the room all in one fell swoop, with their debut release "This Album Doesn't Exist" set to drop on November 18, 2014.
Currently wandering amidst the streets of Brooklyn, DREAMERS is comprised of Nick Wold (vocals, guitar), Chris Bagamery (drums, backup vocals), and Nelson (bass, backup vocals). Having arisen in Seattle and Maryland, they each found a contemplative solace in music, and first met in another life as part of four-piece band, Motive. After catching the attention of the likes of MTV2 and New York Times as well as opening slots for the likes of The Vaccines and Bear Hands,Motive eventually parted ways only to reform in this current life as a three-piece outfit, which would become DREAMERS.
DREAMERS' upcoming album, due for release November 18, is a psychedelic collection of indie rock tunes that journeys through an array of experiences culminating in the transcendental "This Album Doesn't Exist". The first single, "Wolves", is a more pensive track from the release, and an apt introduction to the band. It speaks of the influence other people can have on us, whether good or bad, and showcases the band's expressive songwriting. "It's a tale about how other people can drag you down, drag you up, or generally affect you, especially if you pay a lot of attention to them," explains Wold.
