FIXED Presents Detroit Swindle/ Shit Robot/ JDH & Dave P at Output with The Deep in the Panther Room
74 Wythe Avenue
New York, NY, 11211
This event is 21 and over
The only thing that keeps Detroit Swindle from actually being from Detroit is that they are born and raised in Amsterdam, a little over 6000 kilometers away. So even though they've got their 4 feet firmly positioned on Dutch soil, their heads and hearts are rooted deep into the soul of the motor city.
Detroit Swindle consist of Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets, 2 guys that, without actually growing up together, have had pratically an identical musical upbringing. A vibrant mix of Motown-soul, funk, hiphop and jazz inspired them from an early age on and after a varied exploration through techno and house, they met eachother by mutual interest in Detroit inspired deephouse.
Detroit Swindle have a clear vision on the music they produce and play. If you can't knod your head to it, it's probably not theirs and they probably won't like it. Their productions are best described as contemporary interpretations of classic soul tracks with melodical grooves, jazzy chords and bumpy basslines. So in short, if Marvin Gaye would have made house music, they would have been his biggest fans.
2011 is the year of their first release. With their 'Starvin EP' on Saints & Sonnets, they place themselves amongst highly acclaimed artists like Roman Flugel, Ethyl and Huxley. They are currently working on several remixes and releases, and are experimenting with their DJ/live perfomance. Shows are planned across the Netherlands, Germany and England. For bookings or other inquiries, contact them by email and be sure to follow them on their social media.
After more than a decade DJing other people's records in dark rooms all over the globe, in 2004 Shit Robot - aka Dubliner Marcus Lambkin - finally departed his adopted New York home for a small country town outside of Stuttgart, where he got on with the overdue task of releasing his own music. After a series of club 12"s, in late 2010, Lambkin released his debut album, 'From The Cradle To The Rave', one of electronic music's recent gems. With guests including James Murphy, Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip and Nancy Wang, the 10-track record was described as a "great bleep forward" by the Guardian and "something special" by Pitchfork, and sealed with a nice 7.1.
In 2011, Lambkin introduced The Shit Robot Show, his first live AV offering. TSRS has lit up clubs and festivals the world over, including prime slots at Electric Picnic, Nuits Sonores, Lovebox, SXSW and more. 2012's 'Space Race'/'Teenage Bass' 12" took him back to the floor, before 2013's doubledose of killer singles: 'Feels Real' featuring JENR, aka Luke Jenner, and 'We Got A Love', featuring Reggie Watts. The latter, released in October 2013, found a range of supporters from the usual club suspects to BBC Radio 1 deejays. 'We Got A Love' is also the title of his second album, due for release in February 2014. Like his debut, it promises a smart mix of collaborations with family, friends and faces from a little further beyond. With live dates for TSRS planned for 2014, Lambkin continues to DJ, with his busy diary taking him from favoured spots across Europe and the US, to new, dark corners across the globe.
