DJ Eko

DJ EKO (SF/NYC) is a a sound ambassador and good-groove-enthusiast with a penchant for breaking new artists and exploring cutting edge sound movements. With her love of diasporic music it’s natural that her versatility gets her welcomed into music circles playing alongside Ana Sia, Bassnectar, Bodega (LA), Center, Chief Boima, Cumba Mela, Dhundee, J-Boogie, Nickodemus, Reborn, Rich Medina, Sake-1, The People, Waajeed, Wonway Posibul. Lately she's been rocking sets of soul, tropical, afrobeat, dubstep, ukfunky, soulful house and lots of electronic world music.
Eko's music history began in the early 90’s with breaking records for The Roots, D’angelo, The Fugees, Outkast and Mos Def, logging in 10+ years as a radio host and music director in the Bay Area paralleling Stretch & Bobbito and J-Boogie at KUSF. In 2000, she was branded a taste-maker connoisseur and invited to start writing as a music journalist for URB Magazine, as well as paneling at music conferences and working at a label with Madlib and Stonesthrow Records. 2003 rolled around and she was sent on the Sprite Liquid Mix tour alongside swashbuckling mischief makers: N.E.R.D., The Roots and Talib Kweli.
Eko currently favors the electronic and soul realms and is consistently checking for where those two worlds intertwine. Known for being eclectic and versatile, Eko is a lover of bass and a master of moods who deliver sets that paint an energy frequently crossing genre boundaries. When she’s not traveling to play, she’s busy at home keeping a pulse on everything new and exiting. You are likely to find her at clubs, fashion shows, art galleries, festivals, concerts and renegade soirees alongside regularly working with several retail clients (H+M, Saks Fifth Avenue, Adidas, Sephora, Scion, Top Shop & Macy’s).
Staying true to her record-breaking radio roots and working outside the mainstream has paid off and garnered her invites to play at Coachella, Power To The Peaceful, Burning Man’s Nexus Soundsystem, GirlFest-Hawaii, Youth Speaks and East Village Radio (NYC).
Eko lives in NYC with frequent trips out and about to dj.
