HARPS, FRENSHIP, Echocell, Taxi Doll

HARPS began in 2011 as a musical adventure of current frontman and recent Seattle-transplant Colin Brown. Following the disbanding of Columbia, SC-based band Marry A Thief, a group for which he played drums, Colin wanted to try something different. Over the next several months he met with many of his friends and colleagues in the Columbia scene and began work on what would eventually become HARPS' 2013 debut release, Marvelous Cheer.

After relocating to the pacific northwest in early 2012, the current lineup began to take shape when Brown met drummer and Seattle-native Nick Molenda. The two soon brought on bassist Brian Salvage and female lead/pianist Philana Goodrich, rounding out the present lineup.

With the release of the aforementioned EP “Marvelous Cheer”, the band proves themselves both commercially bankable and artistically spirited in a mere five songs. Lead‐off single “Rescue” is a song drowning in sing‐a‐long anthem and synth, while “Foundation” dangles a boy/girl back‐&‐forth so good that it gives Gotye and Kimbra a run for their money. All this set aside songs like “Let Me In“ (which boasts bombastic live drums and lyrics that chime “I’ll make you all the promises/that it takes for me to f*** it up“) and the hip‐hop tinged “Wait and See” and you have the making of quite the interesting little record.

The very short of it is, frontman Colin Brown and his who’s who of Seattle players are smart. Very smart. But don’t be fooled by the touching nature of their keyboard‐pop. They have a bone to pick.

Seconds into listening to Echocell's Babylon EP and you're swimming into a pleasant and unexpected sonic realm.
The sound is a combination of trip-hop and synth-pop; think Depeche Mode, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sia and Goldfrapp sharing a cup of Turkish coffee.

A labor of love between Istanbul-born/Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter/front woman Belinda Kazanci & Los Angeles based songwriter /keyboardist/ programmer Adam Beltran, their chemistry on Babylon comprises an instant winning formula.

The duo enlisted the help of three different producers/arrangers for the Babylon EP. Wally Gagel and Xandy Barry of Wax LTD, the production duo best known for their works with Muse, New Order, Orbit, and Sebadoh (among others), brought dark '80s synth-pop fragments into radio-ready production. Italian film composer Simone Giuliani added decadent cinematic arrangements to the mix.

Kazanci tapped into her Armenian roots on this new EP, featuring the traditional Armenian duduk instrument, while weaving in Turkish lyrics & melodies to reflect many years spent in Istanbul growing up around Turkish folk music.

Recorded between Los Angeles and New York, Echocell's new album features a solid team of international players: Simon Katz (Jamiroquai, Gorillaz) on electric and acoustic guitars, Jesse Graham (Fatboy Slim) on bass, and Paul Simon's favorite duduk player, Souren Baronian. The puzzle is completed by Dave Darlington (Bjork, David Guetta, Pete Tong) and Wally Gagel at the mixing board.

Echocell continues to grow and redefine conventional genres, staying true to what really matters: passion, dedication and respect for the craft of music making.
