In Less Than a Year, Sovereign Council Garners International Fandom and Success

From headlining performances right off the bat to almost immediate international fandom, Kingston, ON, metal band Sovereign Council have hit the ground running since they banded together in October 2012. In that first year, they've already achieved an impressive amount, including releasing their debut album, New Reign, and achieving international success after less than a year from the album's release and only nine months of live performances.

Sovereign Council is comprised of seven members: Alexander MacWilliam (vocals), Lisa Thompson (vocals), Chris Thompson (guitar), Patrick Buczynski (guitar), Jessica Marsden (keyboards, vocals), Shaun Vanhooser (bass guitar) and Brandon Schneider (drums). This band lineup lends a noteworthy blend of male and female vocals, which is particularly unique to the metal scene.

The group's blend of vocals has earned them comparisons to Lacuna Coil, Evanescence, Delain and Nightwish as well as Kamelot. Like these bands, Sovereign Council embraces metal head on, with full throttle guitar riffs, intense bass lines, driving drums and, fluctuating vocals that are at times guttural and at others more mellow and introspective.

Their unique sound has been influenced by a wide array of artists, from Chopin and Mozart to Slipknot, Metallica, Slayer and Epica, and they find inspiration for their songwriting in lost loves, betrayals, deaths and other hardships in life.

This sound has propelled Sovereign Council to near instant success among fans locally, nationally and internationally, especially in South America, and their online fan base grows exponentially with each passing month. They headlined and sold out all three of their very first shows and even joined up with metal band "Santuarium" out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to perform as co-headliners for the Ontario leg of their North American tour.

Magazines in Canada, Europe and South America have all reviewed their debut album, giving it high marks and colorful praise. The group enjoys airtime on radio stations locally, throughout Canada and even across the globe.

What's most impressive is that all of these accomplishments have happened in their first year alone.

Their track "Down the Rabbit Hole" will be featured on Wi-Fi PR's Indie Anthems Vol. 4, which will be released at the 2014 SXSW. The song encapsulates the powerful but refined metal sound that Sovereign Council strives for and will be strong exposure in the U.S. market via this huge indie festival.

Riding their current successes and popular live shows, Sovereign Council's most recent performances included sharing the show bill with Daedalean Complex and Santuarium at Rancho Relaxo in Toronto, ON, on Nov. 8th and again at The Atria in Oshawa, ON, on Nov. 9th. The latest show was with Schoolcraft at the Brass Monkey in Ottawa, ON, on Nov. 15th.

You can stream their music, including their debut album New Reign, for free on their Reverbnation page. To purchase their music, you'll find digital copies on iTunes, Amazon, Reverbnation, Emusic.com and Rhapsody and physical copies at several record stores in Kingston and one in both Ottawa and Perth. CDs, shirts, and posters can be purchased by messaging the band on their Facebook page.

Originally formed in 2011 with the intent of creating black metal with a melodic edge. Reformed in 2013 with a brand new lineup.

After many years of creative aspirations and intensive preparation, a childhood dream came to fruition in 2005 when Vocalist/Rhythm Guitarist Alexander Orlandi and Bassist Stephen La Porta formed the group, Pariah. Fate seemed to facilitate the completion of the lineup when Alexander met Lead Guitarist Gianpiero Nunziata for the first time and experienced his electrifying style of riffs and shredding guitar solos. After learning he shared an identical passion for the music Pariah was interested in making, we were able to secure the talented drummer Joseph Del Campo. We spent a great deal of time contemplating our stylistic direction and sculpting a multitude of original pieces. From those early days, it was apparent that the genre of Thrash Metal had become Pariah’s primary choice for our musical backdrop. In 2009, Pariah embarked on recording our first EP with extreme attention to detail throughout the entire process. We went on to play many shows in numerous venues in and around the Greater Toronto Area including The Reverb, Cherry Cola's, The Hard Luck Bar, The Rivoli, Lee's Palace and The Opera House. Pariah has also participated in many musical competitions as well as making an appearance at The Mod Club during Canadian Music Week of 2012.

In addition to being lifelong students and teachers of music, Pariah front man Alexander and Lead Guitarist Gianpiero have dedicated most of our young adult lives to both learning music but also teaching it. Furthermore, Alex is in the process of completing an exceptional Masters degree course of study rooted directly in the subject of Heavy Metal music at York University in Toronto. On another level, both our Bassist Stephen and Drummer Joe are based in professions that surround sound design, multi-media production, photography and advertising. Consequently, all these core aspects contributed by each member intersect and unify to form Pariah’s identity as a whole.

Formed in 2010 and described by Jason Daniel Baker as Siouxsie Sioux meets Motorhead, Canadian-based band Psycho Mad Sally fuses the rock guitar of Romanian-born axeman Andrei Sin with the vocals of Russian spoken word performer and energy spitfire Sasha Nevskaya. Backed by former Rusty drummer John Lalley and bassist Max Morin, P.M.S. is a truly unique band, incorporating elements of gypsy music, hardcore punk and of course, pure heavy metal
