Lost In Hollywood.
Originally from Lansing, Michigan, this unsigned brother duo headed out West to chase a dream in Los Angeles, and that's exactly what they are doing.
After releasing four free mixtapes and a compilation project, The Specktators put out their debut album "The Parlay," at the end of 2013. The album hit #6 on the iTunes Hip-Hop charts and landed them on the Billboard Charts for the second time in their career. The album showcased not only their creative talents (Moe-T the producer; Packi the lyricist), but their vision for what the future of music should be.
The Specktators have shared the stage with many artists, including Snoop Dogg, Kid Ink, Machine Gun Kelly, Chiddy Bang, Rockie Fresh, and Timeflies; to name only a few.
Born in New Orleans, Pell was uprooted to Starkville, Mississippi by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 at the age of 15. Like many others in NOLA, Katrina decimated the neighborhood where Pell and his family lived, and as a result they were forced to relocate. "All I was able to take with me from New Orleans was the musical culture I grew up in, not my possessions, only memories and life lessons."
"Creating a new life from scratch teaches you resilience," adds Pell. And he's used his determination to pursue a music career. In high school, Pell created beats for his friends using a beat box that his dad gave him. Pell used those skills to help produce tracks on his first 2010 mixtape, "That Feel Good." It was that year that he also formed the collective That Feel Good (TFG), with some friends.
In 2012, Pell released his first collection of songs digitally as a free album titled The Wild. Shortly after, Pell released a single titled "The Actress" featuring TFG-affiliate Sir Flywalker. The song, an ode to college party life, amassed over 25,000 SoundCloud plays, leading to coverage in the Jackson Free Press, and music outlets such as YouHeardThatNew and NME. In addition, Pell started to open shows for artists such as Machine Gun Kelly, Joey Badass, Waka Flocka, and Casey Veggies.
Also last year, Pell released Calphonic, a free album hosted by DJ Wally Sparks that introduced the world to his laid-back attitude, ambient instrumentals, and nodding melodies. Riding the Calphonic wave into 2013, Pell is currently on the road on the Calphonic Tour featuring other members of TFG. In March of 2013, electro-pop duo Cherub released their highly anticipated 100 Bottles EP featuring Pell on the single 'Drowzzzy.' The momentum continued as Pell launched a video release for 'The Wild,' a track featured on Calphonic, marking his first single available via iTunes. The video premiered via RESPECT. Magazine and was also featured by Vibe and YouHeardThatNew.
SkyBlew and the Digidestined
Mario Farrow grew up in Alabama. Most of his neighborhoods were polluted with drugs, gangs, and violence. Surrounded by negativity and transitioning into various foster homes, he could have easily chosen the wrong path. Rather than succumbing to his environment and dire circumstances, Mario chose to rise above them and use music to soothe his soul and escape. He would freestyle and rhyme to himself, eventually penning his lyrics under the name, "Young Millionaire," in 2004.
In 2008 Mario relocated and acclimated to Chapel Hill, NC. During this transitional period, he delved deeply into his craft, linking up with local emcees and producers like ACee, Shoton, and KdotMills. Thornbro is Chapel Hill, NC based hip hop artist who has been performing around North Carolina since September 2012. Last November he released his debut free album, Plastic Lenses, which challenges listeners to face the demons of their past and to reconsider the way in which they view themselves and the world. Thornbro strives to fuse his two biggest passions - education and music - as he will continue his hip hop career in Cleveland, Ohio later this year while simultaneously teaching math. He believes that a lack of education is the root of all evil acts in the world - violence, discrimination, ignorance, etc. A better educated people will create a better world in every aspect, and Thornbro wants to do all he can to make that happen. Through his The Year of the Believer (TYOTB) movement he is creating a tangible platform to stimulate this change. TYOTB: Believe in yourself, believe in the people around you, and believe in the good that's in the world. With those in mind we can change the world together.
