Moritz, also known as Maurizio, is one of the most influential producers of techno music in the 1990s. In the 1980s he was percussionist for Palais Schaumburg, but would segue into electronic music by the late 80’s and early 90’s. First as 3MB (with Thomas Fehlmann), he co-founded Basic Channel Records (with Mark Ernestus), whose various releases came to epitomize minimal techno. Living in Berlin, he was also part of a music scene that pivoted around the Tresor club and record label, as well as Hardwax, a record store. Von Oswald’s epic M series of records are characterized by a 4x4 beat with dub-inflected syncopated synth pads, slowly modulated over time. Like the Basic Channel records, each 12” had tracks that took up the entire side of each record. His work was highly influential for that of Richie Hawtin, Thomas Brinkmann, Robert Henke (aka Monolake), Wolfgang Voigt, and later through artists whose records were released on the equally influential Chain Reaction Records. His current work as Rhythm & Sound fuses his interests in dub reggae and techno even further, where Jamaican vocalists sing or speak over stripped down techno beats and bass.
Legowelt = the name under which Danny Wolfers releases most of his music. What Music you might ask??? Well a hybrid form of slam jack The Hague electronix combined with deep chicago trax,obscure & romantic ghetto technofunk, EuroHorror Soundtracks and lots -a- more! You can't quite pigeonhole it but it sure as hell slams the pit!
Already more then 10 years in the business Legowelt has released a dozen or so projects on various formats, most of them on good ol' vinyl released on homebase Bunker records, The Hague's legendary pioneering electronic music label. Sometimes these tracks spin out of the obscurity like an asteroid from a spacebelt and fly straight into the charts; such an event happened with 'Disco Rout' which was voted track of the year 2002 by the acclaimed german Groove magazine.

Legowelt began producing music when in the early 90ies the adolescent autistic schoolboy came in sporadic contact with the sounds of Detroit's Underground Resistance, Model 500, Blake Baxter (probably his all-time favorite producer) and Chicago heroes such as Farley Jackmaster Funk, Armando Gallop and mr.Fingers. Later on this palette of influences grew with early Mu-Ziq, Aphex Twin, Drexciya, various stuff from The Irdial Discs label and virtually every type of freaked deep music he could get his hands on.
But nothing had quite the influence of when, somewhere in the early 90ies, he first heard a band called 'Unit Moebius' on the radio. A punky palette of RAW freaked out Lo-fi chicago trax and deep detroit jams made with machines which were found next to the garbage can. Shocked in awe he heard that this music came out of The Hague, Holland The very same city he lived in! Put on the right track by this fact he stumbled into the Bunker Records office and discoverd a world of contemporary autistic freaked music lovers who looked beyond all the bland house and dance music that ruled the media and clubs. Musical mentors such as IF and Melvin White (aka pametex) lectured him with even more unknown sounds such as early electro and the obscure pre-1983 Italian disco which production secrets were closely studied. In 1998 Bunker released the first vinyl of Legowelt : Pimpshifter, a 6 track mingled Italo Chicago combi which became an instant cult hit with tracks such as 'Stumvogel' and 'Total Pussy Control'.
Apart from producing Legowelt has been playing live all over the world for the last 10 years. A lot of time together with Orgue Electronique and the infamous Bunker Team.
Mike Servito is a DJ's DJ — a lifelong music fanatic with a truly
unique ability to move a dance floor. Fearless in his seamless
transitions from one style to another, Servito has an unpredictability
and a deep trust in his music knowledge that has garnered him a cult
following over the years.
Although Servito is a New York transplant, his DJ style is
unmistakably Detroit. Inspired by Detroit radio of the '80s and the
city's local DJs in the '90s, Servito came of age in a flourishing
electronic music scene, making his debut in 1995 and immediately
gaining attention and the respect of his peers and local
techno heroes. After a brief hiatus, Servito was lured back through
the vigorous encouragement of his close friend Magda. He returned to
the DJ realm in 2002, redefining himself and finding inspiration in
the new generation of electronic-music producers and DJs.
Bryan Kasenic (aka Spinoza) is known in the electronic music world for founding The Bunker, playing adventurous DJ sets, launching an influential newsletter, and starting Beyond Booking.
Although Bryan's peaktime sets consist mostly of techno and house, he loves all music, and has a past that cannot be pinned down to just one genre. He started DJing in 1996, playing psychedelic soundscapes in chillout rooms and on college radio shows (Carnegie Mellon, Rutgers, and New York University). Slowly but surely, he began to play more dancefloor friendly sets that incorporated his interest in the deeper spaces you can go to in the chillout room.
Bryan is also known for his many other roles in the electronic music scene. As a free service to the community, he began publishing Beyond NYC Events, a weekly email newsletter, in 1997. The newsletter became an influential way to promote interesting under-the-radar electronic music events to a large fan base in New York. In 2001, Kasenic oversaw the booking of all of the promoters at Openair, a DJ lounge in the East Village that quickly gained recognition for its forward-thinking music programming. At Openair, one of the promoters he worked with was Magda, who brought in techno luminaries like Zip, Daniel Bell, and John Tejada to play at her first residency in New York City. From 2000 to 2005, Spinoza helped DJ Olive and Jameson run The Agriculture, a record label dedicated to bringing homegrown laptop dub to the masses.
Bryan has thrown a ton of parties and weeklies in New York City, including a 5-year stint at Halcyon with the Undercity weekly. He has put most of his energy into The Bunker since January 2003, eventually turning it into the premier techno weekly in North America, which morphed into a bigger monthly party in 2009. In 2005, he started doing all the booking for the Wolf + Lamb Marcy Hotel in Williamsburg, helping to almost instantly transform it into the hottest after-hours spot New York City had seen in many years. Kasenic went on to curate and help throw many larger warehouse and loft parties with Wolf + Lamb. In 2008, he founded the House-n-Home loft party series with Anthony Parasole, which hosted many legendary loft parties at 12-turn-13 over the course of a year.
Through the Beyond Booking Agency, Kasenic has helped build the electronic music scene nationally by booking his friends and allies in other North American cities. As he has become busier with other projects, he reduced the Beyond roster to just The Bunker residents (Derek Plaslaiko, Eric Cloutier, Mike Servito, and himself) and a few friends, but continues to assist guest artists coming through The Bunker to connect with the right people in other cities.
Bryan produced three events for the inaugural Unsound Festival New York in February 2010, and followed with more in 2011 and 2012. Unsound, Poland's most forward-thinking music festival, brought a bold and uniquely modern program of music to Kraków for seven years before producing a New York edition. Every Unsound Festival edition of The Bunker was highly successful, presenting a cross section of some of the most interesting (and sadly most under represented) electronic music artists from Eastern Europe and the US.
While Kasenic has played lots of big clubs like Panorama Bar, Twilo, Tunnel, and Vinyl/Arc, he honestly prefers small intimate rooms. He has DJed at big parties in New York for PS1 Warm Up, Resolute, Rhythmism, Madagascar Institute, Chengwin, Soundlab, Multipolyomni (at the Kitchen), Rubulad, Complacent, theDanger, the Lunatarium, and NYC Burningman Decompression. He's also appeared in Berlin (Panorama Bar, Watergate, Tresor), Krakow & Warsaw (Unsound Festival), Seattle (Decibel Festival), Boulder (Communikey Festival), Chicago (Smart Bar, Sonotheque), Detroit (No Way Back, Oslo), Philadelphia (Rizumu, Inciting), Boston, Denver, Pittsburgh, and Montreal.
2013 is looking bright for Bryan. In addition to their New York events, The Bunker will continue a residency collaboration with GAFFTA at Monarch in San Francisco, and launch a new residency at Smart Bar in Chicago. After a sucessful first gig at Panorama Bar in September 2012 alongside The Bunker residents Derek Plaslaiko and Eric Cloutier, Bryan was asked back in February and is building a European tour around that date.
If you examined a San Francisco dance floor, you would find many layers of rich history stamped into the wood grain. It would tell you tales of the 80's discotheques like the Trocadero Transfer or of Sylvester playing acetates at the End Up. Look closer and you will find imprints of endless nights sweating to the sounds of the DJ Harvey and the Wicked Crew or Mark Farina and the naked sounds of Miguel Migs. But, if you were to look up and into the DJ booth, you would find some new faces fanning the flames of a heavy torch passed on.
Honey Soundsystem, a DJ group created in the spirit of the legendary bay area crews, have been making their own scuff marks on todays dancefloors while spreading the gospel of SF's rich dance music history. A couple of years ago discaires, Ken Vulsion, Pee Play, Robot Hustle, Jason Kendig, and Josh Cheon, came together seeking to fill a void they saw in current gay nightlife. Each member, with many years of experience under his belt, watched as a revival of gay disco legends and queer house music producers were being celebrated by a new generation of dancers. Honey Soundsystem started throwing events bringing those old records and the excitement of new underground sounds back to a gay/mixed dancefloor. Honey started turning heads with their cunning ad campeigns, decadent themes, international guests, private warehouse parties and ofcourse their floor stomping DJ sets. The Mineshaft party was an evening dedicated to SF's high energy disco label Megatone Records of which Honey has been hard at work to release never before heard music from frisco disco legend Patrick Cowley.
They have hosted DJ's from around the world, including Todd Terje, Hawke aka Gavin Hardkiss, Horse Meat Disco London, Part Time Punks, Stefan Goldmann, Hercules & Love Affair, Discodromo, Cosmo Vitelli, DJ Spun, Shits & Giggles, Derek Plaslaiko, Ben Aqua, MVSCLZ, DJ Garth, Club Tubway NYC, Anthony Mansfield, Party Effects, House of Stank, Pilooski, Teengirl Fantasy, Lovefingers,and A Club Called Rhonda
2009 has been an exciting year for the crew. With a European tour under their belt, a mix featured on Tim Sweeny's Beats in Space, a successfull Sunday weekly residency in SF, and countless other dates all over, the bees are buzzing. The coming months will find Honey with original 12" releases and edits, the launch of Josh Cheon's new label Dark Entries, and the release of their collaboration with Macro of Catholic, a never before heard album by Patrick Cowley.
While shopping for vinyl at a record store, Ryan Smith met Ron Like Hell, a veteran DJ of 19 years. Both excited to meet another like-minded gay individual into timeless musical sounds, past and present, they were inspired to work on a project together. They really came into their own when they launched the Wrecked monthly at National Underground, which was an immediate success. They've made it their mission to book solid underground talent to express the changing tides in the gay underground. Currently, Ron is working on music and remixes while Ryan is working on a label, Discaire Records, with 3 other gents while working as a booking agent. The duo is always cooking up some exciting new projects and surprises. For the past few months, these guys have become a regular part of our lineups at The Bunker, shining bright as both openers and in more prime time slots.
