"The theorem of turntablist as musician has been long proven in the capable hands of DJ LOGIC, whom with jazz as his foundation has become a wax innovator by crossing genres and sprinkling his sound across the map. As one of the world's most accomplished turntablist's, DJ LOGIC is widely credited for introducing jazz into the hip - hop realms and is considered by most as a highly respected session musician and an innovative bandleader.
Since his emergence in the early nineties amidst the Bronx hip-hop scene, the New York City based deejay has been amassing a veritable mountain of collaborations ranging from the likes of: MEDESKI MARTIN AND WOOD, CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE, VERNON REID, CHARLIE HUNTER, JACK DeJOHNETTE, JOHN MAYER, BEN HARPER, MOS DEF and THE ROOTS, to name but a few.
These days, DJ LOGIC is focusing on studio endeavors, producing notable projects such as: Re-imagination with jazz piano phenomenon ELDAR ; collaborating with VERNON REID on a project he co-founded called the Yohimbe Brothers ; touring with CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE in support of Live at Tonic ; participating in a side project called SOLESIDE (featuring KYLE HOLLINGSWORTH from STRING CHEESE INCIDENT and SPEECH from ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT) and co-anchoring a rock band with JOHN POPPER (The John Popper Project featuring DJ Logic) . LOGIC'S body of work also includes three highly accomplished solo albums (Zen of Logic; The Anomaly; Presents Project Logic), all released on Ropeadope Records.
DJ LOGIC and his role as an electronic-music ambassador keeps him at the top of his game. Whether the scratch artist instructs tablas to flirt with drum 'n' bass (such as on his NINA SIMONE and BILLY HOLIDAY remixes found on Sony Legacy's Remixed and Reimagined volumes) , or while meshing free styling MC's with Afro-Cuban rhythms (such as on 'Share Worldwide Funk' - a remix produced for JACK DeJOHNETTE and Golden Beams Collected, Volume 1 ) , LOGIC can always be found paying homage to his predecessors while contributing his vision to the deejay genre. While the context of his work may vary, DJ LOGIC'S spinning skills are definitely beyond reproach. He works with a phenomenal roster of invited guests, and he knows how to pick his collaborators as well as his samples. With a growing catalogue of recordings under his belt, DJ LOGIC'S supreme musicianship and catholic tastes will allow him to journey wherever an infectious groove may take him.
Luke the Knife
"Luke the Knife" is the DJ moniker of Luke Miller from Lotus.
The project focuses on disco, funk, house, and indie dance. Live it is augmented by guitar, keyboards, and drums.
The Underwater Sounds
Whether you catch them at a festival, in a crowded basement, at the TLA, on a rigged stage in a rustic barn, at a hiphop show or on a reggae bill, the Underwater Sounds will captivate listeners and create a unique listening experience.
Now 2 years young, this 4-piece has been described as a sort of reggae-funk-jam fusion, alternating between periods of technical precision and psychedelic improve. The Sounds strive to bring new ideas and unconventional approaches to reggae music; they do this while incorporating a strong female vocal and mindful informed lyrics.
In 2010, their self-titled record was voted #1 debut album by WXPN.org's The Key, and in 2011 the Underwater Sounds were nominated for 2 Asbury Park music awards, Best Groove Band and Top Female Vocalist.
Now, the band delivers it's sophomore full length album, Que Se Queda (That Which Remains), due for release in early 2012. Engineered and produced by Daoud Shaw (Van Morrison, Saturday Night Live, the Jerry Garcia Band) in Philadelphia, PA, the album is an ambitious effort--a sweeping variety of grooves laid over unusual rythyms, topped with captivating melodies.
"A blend of unique, catchy, and relative," their sound "can take them anywhere...at times beautiful, at other times angry, but mostly heavily invested in every emotion," the Underwater Sounds are eager to stay on the road and keep creating conscious music.
A folksy Philadelphia quartet, CARLSound represents an acoustic/electric guitarist - singer/songwriter.
It's time to live with passion and experience every day :)
The Bailey Hounds
The Bailey Hounds are a Philadelphia-based band that fall somewhere in the musical realm of Gothic Americana, playing folk & blues inspired songs with lyrics of a melancholy and often macabre nature. They formed in early 2009 and recently finished working on their first full-length album, entitled "Along the Gallows", which was released on Devil's Night, October 30th. They play regularly in the Philadelphia & New York City area and are starting to play more frequently in surrounding cities & states.
Recently, their live cover of Pantera's "The Great Southern Trendkill" received over 30,000 views after Pantera themselves posted it on their facebook after discovering it on various heavy-metal websites.
Currently, several tracks off of their debut-album are being regularly played on the popular Philadelphia radio station 88.5 WXPN along with their cover of Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It's All Right". The Bailey Hounds have also had featured interviews on 93.7 WSTW and 89.5 WPKN in Connecticut.
Some call him "The Outlaw." Others JJ. Either way he knows what to play!
