Dark Disco with Marty Party, Joker, Tanner Caldwell, Max Mischief and DKDS :: Built by MeanRed
88 East Broadway (at Forsyth St.)
New York, NY, 10002
This event is 21 and over
Since 2007 MartyParty has produced sets of original music that range from melodic instrumental hip hop to bassline oriented dubstep. MartyParty has started a movement back towards the power of the melody and the harmony in electronic composition. Song writing has always been Marty's passion instead of the typical beat style dj production. The music is a hybrid of electronic music and hip hop that together form a totally new flavor of urban beat with the hypnotic elements of electronic music and hard-hitting bass. The MartyParty live performance is an intense journey that pulls together the MartyParty songs overlaid with urban samples triggered live. The result is a true "crunky" and "hyphy" experience like no other.
Aged just 20, Joker is an immensely precocious talent, he burst onto the Dubstep and Grime scenes in 2008 with the vibrant 'Grimey Princess' and 'Gully Brook Lane' which were released on Earwax and Plastician's Terrorhythm imprint respectively. His productions possess a rare duality of intense and nonchalant energy, the soundtrack to a pimp on an interstellar journey.
Joker's musical peers include Rustie, Gemmy and Kode 9, the recognised tastemaker and man behind Hyperdub who identified Joker as one to watch when he named him as his protégée for Mary Anne Hobbs' hugely seminal follow-up to Dubstep Wars, Generation Bass; broadcast worldwide on BBC Radio 1.
Joker's video can be viewed on Youtube and in testament to the level of interest in this Bristolian talent, continues to be the highest viewed video of the Maida Vale session.
Joker has remixed Roni Size, Simian Mobile Disco and Lil Boots, his productions are battered by DJs including Skream, Rustie, Harmonic 313 and Plastician. Pitchfork named Joker, 2008 Producer Of The Year a huge accolade for a producer who's not only just out of his teens but also just out of the starting blocks.
Born to Grime and adopted by Dubstep, Joker is reluctant to be classified, but his soul drenched productions have been described as Jehri Curl Boogie and Wiley stuck in an elevator with Cameo. Whatever you call it, as we move through 2009 and beyond, Joker is one of the shining stars that can be seen in the distance and by the time the light of his electric melody's reaches our eardrums he has already begun the next phase of his journey.

DKDS are rising stars of the NYC underground, night creatures whose main goal in life is to make you stay up too late and dance ’til dawn. DKDS is made up of Scrap and Chris – two tall, dark cousins who hail from Seattle and New York, respectively. The two reunited in Brooklyn over a mutual love of jackin’ deep house and techno and formed a DJ duo; over the last couple years their back-to-back sets have made a serious mark on NYC nightlife, one debauched party at a time. The boys recently caught the attention of MeanRed, who made them residents of their Dark Disco party deep Downtown. They’re also hard at work on original tracks with the edgy-yet-suave vibe that is their signature. Don’t sleep… no, really.
