Killer Mike released his debut album, Monster, in 2003. The album's lead single was "Akshon (Yeah!)", it featured OutKast on guest vocals, and was included on the soundtrack to the 2004 version of EA Sports popular video game Madden NFL. He even made a Madden '04 remix of "Akshon (Yeah!)" for the game. Following the release of his own material, he appeared on "Flip Flop Rock" and "Bust" on the Speakerboxx half of Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. He also appeared on "Southern Takeover" with Pastor Troy on Chamillionaire's CD The Sound of Revenge. His second album "Ghetto Extraordinary" has had its release date pushed back several times due to disputes between Big Boi and Sony Records. 1
Killer Mike has also performed as a voice actor. He plays a rapper/actor, turned President of the United States, named Taqu'il in the Adult Swim cartoon Frisky Dingo. According to an article published in the June 2007 issue of XXL, Killer Mike addressed why he left the Purple Ribbon roster. He stated that he felt as if Purple Ribbon was the equivilent to the "Clippers," while he wanted to join the "Lakers."
Fusik (few-sick) Is a funky five piece from Ft. Lauderdale Florida. But what’s FUSIK’s sound you say? Throw Jimmi Hendrix, Santana, and James Brown in a blender and that’s what you would get (FUSIK a true FUSION of MUSIC). Ask anyone who has been to their live shows and they will tell you Fusik can keep the party moving with their high energy beats, funky rhythms, and smoking solos. Not to mention the Bboys coming through breaking it down at every show. If you are lucky you can also see some guest dance appearances by some of Fusik’s own Band members!
The band consist of Lead guitar and soulful vocalist Anton “Sanchez” Rivera, a New Yorican from the Bronx that add the blues and rock seasoning. Charles “Chip “Gardener Fusik’s Organ/Keyboard player whose solo lines and funky rhythms add much taste to Fusik’s sound. Mack Moore, Bass/Rhythm Guitar keeping the groove locked making it impossible to stay still. Danny “Quinto” Naval, the energetic and lively percussionist who adds the Latin flavor to the group. And Daniel “Felix” Garcia on Drums, holding down the beats and keeping it all together with his solid pocket groove.
Fusik has appeared at many local hot spots including Transit Lounge (Miami), Culture Room (Ft Lauderdale), Dada (Delray Beach), The Social (Orlando), and many more. Outside of Florida Fusik has visited various cities in the US and has had many European visits including France, Spain, and Italy to name a few. The boys have also shared the stage with the likes of: KRS One, N.E.R.D, Blues Traveler, Carl Denson, Shamarr Allen and many more.
Broward-based MC Dynas is one of the local hip-hop underground's stealth forces. He may not perform every weekend at the usual suspect venues, but when he surfaces, it's always with something worth stopping to listen to. Raised in New York City, his style is stamped with his hometown's golden-era lyricism and laid-back flow, over soulful but searing beats.
On a slow but steady come up, Dynas has made some pretty impressive friends along the way, several of whom appear on his forthcoming new album, The Apartment. On it, there are contributions from DJ Spinna, Jazzy Jeff, Rich Medina, and even the late Dilla (whose posthumous output might soon rival Tupac's). And on the song "Family Jewels," he even got a guest verse from Slick Rick!
After the jump, check out the track "Totally Tanya."
With a beat built over a mournful soul sample, this is a low-key, elegy for a failed relationship. With its introspective mood and jazzy, textured beat, the track is like some un-earthed late-'90s Black Star stuff. Listen and enjoy. The Apartment comes out September 28 on BBE Records; stay tuned to Crossfade in coming weeks for more about it.
