Melodies Cafe Presents
The Bigness, Dan Mills, Savior Soul
2 East Lancaster Avenue
Ardmore, PA, 19003
Uber-melodic folk Americana meets punch-you-in-the-face guitar riffs and bluesy undertones. Think British Invasion guitar work, grounded in a steady folk strum and backing vocals that scream Air, Lennon/McCartney, and The Supremes all at once.
It all started with a serendipitous meeting that led to a collaborative effort between front-woman Kristin Bigness and lead guitarist John Bueno (Bueno and The Goods) that took Kristin's charming folk tunes and gave them some balls.
The band's latest album, Surf+Turf combines thesetwo lifetimes of songwriting. It has been called "nothing less than a gem" and these collaborative efforts shows no signs of slowing down.
Folk singer-songwriter Dan Mills fronts a five piece band based out of Brooklyn, NY that recently released their third full length album of lyrically driven folk/pop songs. Mills and his music have been featured in a variety of settings, from recent spins and a live performance on Sirius XM's Coffeehouse station to web and TV commercials. He has toured extensively and has opened for artists such as the Steve Miller Band, Brett Dennen, and Ryan Montbleau. He also landed a role portraying country guitar legend Carl Perkins in the Broadway Cast of Million Dollar Quartet following a performance at NYC's singer songwriter mecca, Rockwood Music Hall. The emergence of roots music in early America, from its European and African origins through its maturation and development over the decades, helped to produce such homegrown music genres as country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues… including the powerful & influential music of the African-American spirituals, gospel, sacred music, gospel blues, & bluegrass gospel music. The suburban Philly based band, Savior Soul, draws its influences from these musical roots and invites their audiences on board for a musical & spiritual journey that will have them stomping their feet and clapping their hands in jubilation!
Since the original meeting between Savior Soul drummer, Mark Beecher (Drexel University Music Professor, & GRAMMY nominee/member) and Rick Shryock, (renowned fiddler for numerous Philadelphia/Tri-State bluegrass bands), the band has grown to 9 members with an ever-increasing repertoire. Savior Soul combines the traditional with the contemporary, into a unique blend of Spirit-filled Americana Music, by the ways and means of voice, guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, acoustic bass, & drums. “The music of our band, Savior Soul, gets the listeners past any pretentiousness and into their hearts,” says Beecher. “It’s simply an honest expression of what we are feeling in our music, rather than any forced statement or declaration. It’s an uplifting message of hope & redemption.” The band is currently in the studio recording their soon-to-be-released CD, “Cast Your Bread.”
