JASON MCCOY (The Road Hammers), SHAUN VERREAULT (Wide Mouth Mason), GORDIE JOHNSON (Big Sugar), RUSSELL BROOM (Musician, Producer, Engineer), GREG GODOVITZ (Goddo) plus special guest PAUL DEAN (Loverboy) JOIN TOGETHER FOR THE 5th ANNUAL MUSICIANS CARE FOR KIDS
A fundraiser supporting The Boys & Girls club of Calgary’s Avenue 15 program.
Jeff Parry Promotions, Annerin Productions & the Calgary Entrepreneurs Organization are pleased to announce the 5th Annual Musicians Care for Kids concert taking place Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Flames Central. This year we’re doing things different; we’re shaking things up and rockin’ out with renowned Canadian and local musicians at a new venue! The highly talented and energetic Russell Broom, 2012 WCMA Producer of the Year, is back to join us again this year as our host for the night. The stage will welcome Canadian musicians: Jason McCoy two time CCMA Male Vocalist of the Year and multiple CCMA/CMA award winner, Shaun Verreault lead guitarist from Canadian blues band Wide Mouth Mason, Gordie Johnson from Big Sugar, and Greg Godovitz from Goddo. Special guest Paul Dean from Canadian rock band Loverboy will accompany the house band consisting of Mike Lent on bass, Mike Little on keyboards and Pat Steward-drums while our musicians share their stories, motivations and inspirations behind some of their finest songs. We’re going to spice things up and collaborate together for an electrifying performance, so come join us at Flames Central for an entertaining night with great company, while benefiting the needs of Calgary youth.
Over the past three years the event has raised over $142,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Calgary. Last year alone, we raised over $82,000 in total with the help of sponsors matching all monies raised. Once again, 100% of the net proceeds will be going to the Avenue 15 program, which provides homeless and runaway youth ages 12 to 17 with temporary shelter and basic needs. This program also provides a comprehensive support system to assist these youth in reuniting with their families or finding alternative living arrangements.
As a 25 year veteran of the entertainment industry, and two time CCMA Male Vocalist of the Year, Jason McCoy appears to be the king of reinvention. Growing up in the small town of Minesing Ontario, Jason admired the well-rounded artistry of classic entertainers Roger Miller and Johnny Cash, to Merle Haggard and Glen Campbell. As a Country Music Artist, he’s racked up multiple CCMA and CMA awards along with a Gold album and is also the front man of the highest selling band in Canadian Country Music history, The Road Hammers.
Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Shaun Verreault is the lead singer/guitarist for Wide Mouth Mason as well as a solo performer, producer and broadcaster. In addition to Wide Mouth Mason's seven albums, Shaun has released two solo recordings: The Daggerlip Sketches and Two Steel Strings, which was recorded on a vintage train as it crossed Canada.
Gordie Johnson wears many hats: guitar player, bassist, producer, mixing engineer, songwriter and bandleader. A lifelong musician, he first gained fame with his reggae rock band Big Sugar (Diggin a Hole, Turn the Lights On and most recently, Roads Ahead). He is the bandleader of Texas based "cowboy metal" trio Grady. He is the fulltime bass player for Wide Mouth Mason and has played with the Black Crowes and with both Chris and Rich Robinson in their solo projects, and the North Mississippi Allstars. When not touring, Gordie is a very busy producer, mix engineer and songwriter. He has worked with Gov’t Mule, Elvis Costello, Steve Winwood, Billy Gibbons, and many Canadian artists, including Joel Plaskett, Sarah Slean, The Trews and The Glorious Sons.
Russell Broom is a JUNO, WCMA, AMPIA, and SOCAN award winning producer, engineer, musician and songwriter. Based in Calgary, he has worked with a multitude of artists including Jann Arden, Jason McCoy, George Canyon, Robbie Williams, SheDaisy, Josh Groban, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, Chantal Kreviazuk, The Dudes, and many more.
Greg Godovitz has been an active member of the Canadian music industry since 1964. Garnering national success with the Canadian rock trio, Goddo, Greg has produced eleven albums and has toured the country extensively from 1975 to the present. His first solo album, aMuseMe, produced by Paul Dean of Loverboy was released just this year.
Born in Vancouver, British Columbia and best known as the lead guitarist with the infamous Canadian Rock band Loverboy. Loverboy’s inception began in Calgary, Canada, when Mike Reno was introduced to Paul Dean at The Refinery Night Club. Dean was rehearsing a new band out back in a warehouse with a friend of Reno’s and Mike stopped by to jam. It was during one of those jam sessions with Reno on drums and Dean on bass that Turn Me Loose and Loverboy was born. In 1980, Loverboy signed with Columbia Records Canada and saw their debut album LOVERBOY fly out the stores setting record sales for a debut album -- over 700,000 records in Canada.
