Counter Intuits is a project by Ron House (PSandwich, Great Plains, Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments) and Jared Phillips (Times New Viking).
Based in Ohio the duo utilizes House’s distinct vocal musings, ramshackle beats and crooked guitars to create songs that bring new blood to wrong-footed alternative music.
With a phrases like ‘DIY’ and ‘Lo-Fi’ that get thrown around often these days , it’s bands like Counter Intuits that give real credence to the terms. Converting basements, houses and living rooms into experimental music laboratories, House and Phillips deliver all the panache of 70’s period The Fall with traces of indie and scrambled Lo-Fi.
“On one of my Yards Brawler runs down to the city of brotherly love, I caught a live set by the unit and drunkenly declared them the ultimate party band for the true blue anti-social misfit. Their latest 7” on the Siltbreeze label (Die With Dignity b/w Leave Me Alone) brings the roar they produce from the tiny stage right down onto the shiny vinyl. It shows the band not only hitting their stride in bad vibes but showcases their unique understanding of the monotonous riffage that links Breakdown, The Brainbombs, Raven, and Sweet Sister Ray.” -Rettsounds/Vice
With an uninhibited musical dynamic that could only be birthed from three friends, Amanda X delivers with ethereal vocal harmonies, heavy hits and solid guitar work. Formed serendipitously in late spring of last year, Amanda X’s members set to work and self-released their first EP on tape a few months later.
Currently Amanda X are recording their first full length album with Jeff Zeigler of Uniform Recording. The band hopes to release the new full length sometime in early 2014. Amanda X is comprised of Cat Park of Bandname on guitar and vocals, Kat Bean on bass and vocals and Tiff Yoon on drums.
Taiwan Housing Project
Mark Feehan, formerly of Harry Pussy, and Kilynn Lunsford of Little Claw team up with drummer Pat Gangley to create a weird wall of guitar and voice noise heard previously only in the fevered opium nightmares of Mackie Messer. Only the second ever performance of the group might also be it's last as they have a only a very tenuous grasp on reality. A must see show for those of you planning to some day present your "cool" bona fides to your grandchildren.
