Decibel Magazine Tour
You've patiently waited out one of the grimmest winters in recent memory. Now it's time to collect your reward: The third annual Decibel Magazine Tour is finally upon us, as Carcass, the Black Dahlia Murder, Gorguts and Noisem.
CARCASS has released several classic albums over the years, including Decibel Magazine "Hall of Fame" inductees Heartwork and Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious, and their influence has changed the face of extreme metal with every consecutive release. Whether it was inventing gore-grind (i.e. Reek of Putrefaction, Symphonies of Sickness) or creating the template for melodic death metal (i.e. Heartwork), CARCASS has always made records by which bars were set and rules were broken.
Upon the band's dismantling in 1996, fans mourned the loss of the seminal act and longed that the group would return again one day. In 2007, the metal world got its wish as CARCASS reformed to play several sold-out reunion shows around the globe. Once again re-motivated to administer a shot of cynicism and infectious riffs into the arm of a sickly metal scene, founding members Bill Steer and Jeff Walker began writing what would become the latest output of their highly influential career, Surgical Steel. Only the choicest of cuts were made, and blood sweat and tears were shed to bring us a record worthy of the CARCASS legacy. In short, Surgical Steel is just what the doctor ordered.
The Black Dahlia Murder
"Detroit's the Black Dahlia Murder, named for the infamous 1947 slaying of 22-year-old Elizabeth Short, aka the Black Dahlia, actually sounds like they should live in Scandinavia, whence originates much of the frenetic brand of death and black metal that inspires them. Formed in January 2001, the Black Dahlia Murder followed their six-song What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse demo with the four-track A Cold-Blooded Epitaph EP, which was released on their own Lovelost Records. Having already made a number of acclaimed concert appearances (e.g., the Milwaukee Metal Fest), the group -- comprised of vocalist Trevor Strnad, guitarists Brian Eschbach andJon Kemppainen, bassist David Lock, and drummer Cory Grady -- signed with Metal Blade in 2003 and was soon recording its debut album, Unhallowed. The 2005 release Miasma and 2007's Nocturnalkept death metal as the group's foundation, though the band began exhibiting an increasingly melodic streak that came to fruition on 2009's brutal but majestic Deflorate. The group's fifth studio album,Ritual, arrived in the summer of 2011." - AllMusicGuide
GORGUTS, long-running Canadian craftsmen of technical death metal have returned! After more than a decade of silence, mastermind Luc Lemay unleashes "Colored Sands", a new brand of pestilent fury featuring an all star line-up including John Longstreath (ORIGIN, SKINLESS), Colin Marston (BEHOLD THE ARCTOPUS) and Kevin Hufnagel (DYSRHYTHMIA). Few extreme bands have the pedigree of GORGUTS. During their early days as part of death metal's first wave, they created a legacy of legendary releases including their debut album "Considered Dead" (1991) and its follow-up "Erosion of Sanity" (1993). The latter witnessed the Canadians becoming more experimental and technical. After a hiatus of five years, Luc Lemay returned with a new line-up, which released the acclaimed third full-length "Obscura" (1998). By then GORGUTS had fully transformed into one of the most progressive and influential bands in extreme music, which remained impervious to trends, while expanding and redefining the language of death metal. With a new line-up that left Lemay as the sole original member, another milestone album was released. On "From Wisdom to Hate" (2001) the Quebecois successfully merged the brutal and more direct approach of their earlier albums with the complex arrangements of "Obscura". Just as GORGUTS seemed on the verge of making the first decade of the new century their own, the band was hit by business and personal issues and went on hiatus. Their musical legacy continued to inspire and thrive as their native Quebec became a focus for technical death metal with acts such as CRYPTOPSY, NEURAXIS and BEYOND CREATION to name but a few following in their footsteps. Now the masters are back to deliver the stunning masterpiece the metal world has been awaiting so long. Brace hard or get swept away by the mind blowing storm of "Colored Sands"!
"Manic and raw Death/Thrash from a Baltimore gutter"
New band with a long pedigree of Philadelphia metal/grind/doom/power violence history. Featuring members and ex members of Javelina, LickGoldenSky, Zodiac, Cop Problem, Etc. The commitment to all things scuzzy, is proven. Highly recommended if you were a fan of long time greats such as Assück, Crossed Out, and early Napalm Death.
